Captain Munnerlyn: It’s scary how good the Panthers defense can be

davethepanther why do the mods allow you to post

perhaps "elite" may have been too strong or too ambiguous of a word. what i had really meant to say was top 5. you can be really pedestrian at one position on defense and still make top 5, providing you can adequately compensate for a deficiency with a strength.

No, it's not about being embarrassed. I like confidence, but some things are better off not said. Other teams read this stuff too. After last years Superbowl guarantee, I'm a bit soured on making public offseason declarations.

I'll voice my opinion whether you like it or not, next time just read on past my post if you don't like it.

They are the ones playing the game and they have the right to talk smack and stroke their ego's. Who gives a damn if other teams read it. In order for our team to be great they have to believe it first. I just see posts like yours all the time on the huddle. Watching the competition for most objective Panther fan each month gets really annoying.

Yeah well they supposedly believed it last year with the Superbowl talk, and look how that turned out.

This franchise is notorious for starting off slow when the season begins. Talk is just talk. Time to prove it.

SInce the players can't prove anything (nor can we) until the season starts in September, if we use the old prove it and shut up until then, there would be nothing to talk about.  Given it is boring as hell already, that makes little sense.

Besides, what Kalil did last year had no bearing on how we played or what the team did so who cares what he said.  Saying we could be really good this year versus saying Atlanta sucks this year are very different. Making proclamations about your potential isn't bulletin board material since it isn't derogatory to anyone.

If you think they are full of it, that is your right just like they can say what they want.  Listen to it or don't.  That is everyone's perogative.

Frankly I have no problem with what Munnerlyn said despite the fact I may have not done the same.

how could anybody construe people not subscribing to the fluff bandwagon as an offseason gag order

there's an almost infinite amount of ways people can contrubute and analyze how we're going to perform objectively without going "hurr durr look at this awesome article that says ron rivera is impressed with peter mcdicklicker guess he's going to have an all-pro season and we're going to win the big one now i'm calling it"

I prefer to be optimistic and say positive things about the team and players.  You can feel free to criticize and be a cynic.  Some of us prefer to be positive not afraid to be a fan and love the team with all the warts.  Your version of objectivity is my definition of negative and pessimistic. Since you have no more idea how the season is going to play out than I do, my version of what will happen is every bit as objective and valid as yours.  I am having fun enjoying the team and the news while you seem to hold back and doubt everything.  Likely this is a microcosm of how we view the world.  I frankly like my version much better.  Most people I know like the positive version much better as well.

Its scary that the Captain is arguably our best db. No disrespect to him, but damn... That d line is going to have to be ballin'

Cap played his ass off last year. There was something posted a while back, that showed he played at a very high level last year...and on the outside, not just nickel.

I agree he played his ass off and Im glad hes on our team. Problem is most #1s and #2s are over 6' tall and will usually beat Munnerlyn provided they have a decent QB. I do think hes a nice nickel corner and even fine on the outside against guys that are under 5'10 or so. I just dont like the matchup with true outside receivers.

I agree.

WR's like Julio and Roddy create such a big physical mismatch that it is extremely hard to overcome that.

This is why Norman needs to step it up.

oh cool it took you a day to come up with the millionth appeal for positivity posted on thids forum.

i can't share that mentality because year after year the team is overhyped during the summer, every headline out of charlotte makes the panthers out to be worldbeaters, and when it takes the team until november to get their collective heads out of their asses, everybody acts like they're surprised as of they never saw it coming.

so you can cue the sisyphean big expectations philosophy, call it being positive, and when it doesn't work, either make excuses or conveniently fail to recall thinking one of our fourth stringers was going lead the league in interception return yards.

i, on the other hand, have yet to see anything that tells me this year is going to be any different than in the past, and that's mainly because it's too early.

and no, unless that whole microcosm of world views point you made refers to how naive you sound on here, it's got nothing to do with how i live my life besides the fact that i don't go into rest stop water closets blindfolded expecting an oreo cake instead of a pile of poo in the toilet, which is the perfect analogy for how the lemmings have expected the team to perform vs. what they actually have gotten the last few years.
