Len Will Be An NBA Bust

Recommended Posts

Len won't be a bust. He is very skilled and can shoot. Runs the floor well. He may be the best player looking back 3yrs down the road in this draft. Mclemore to me has greater bust potential. He looks to be dropping like a rock from what I've read. IMO Bennett will be the star of this draft.

What about the fact that he played against 6'9", 210 pound Centers in college*? That could eliminate a good portion of that 60%. There is subjectivity even in stats when you consider how they will translate into the NBA.

Like I said, it's not as cut and dry as you are making it out to be. If it was, we would know exactly who was going where as soon as the draft lottery was set. That's the reason for the Combine, why scouts have jobs, and why ordinary fans spend so much time and money on watching highlights, watching TV, and reading mock drafts.

*Note: This is not my actual argument against Len, just an example.

It doesn't matter what the fact or its' subjectivity is, because you can argue it with other facts like Len dropped 23 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks on Nerlens Noel who is taller than 6'9.

Facts (mainly in sports) can be argued, laws cannot be... So as long as you're not bringing the law of thermodynamics into the discussion we can have a good argument. What you actually see on tv and websites are these experts presenting their facts and then arguing them for or against players. That's how you get the positives and negatives of each player.

And I'm glad you brought up scouting and the combine. As far as I know, no one on this forum works for an NBA team, so no one is qualified to say that "this player" is going to be a bust or a an all-star without having some sort of basis for an argument. Hell, even scouts can't do that or they'll get canned by the general manager.

All I ask is that if you make a claim, back it up with something. I may not agree with your claim, but who's to say who is right or wrong; at least we can have a discussion now.

It's hard to have a discussion with anyone who's ideal argument is "*insert player* sucks because I said so".

Sports journalism and writing is no different than any other type of writing. You are going to have your thesis, your body (paragraphs with statements and arguments for or against), then your conclusion.

That's all I ask from you guys, don't just give me "well Byron Mullens sucks ass (even if it's true)", tell me why he sucks ass.

Also you can state a fact off of something you've seen...

For example... I watched this "player play" and he tends to struggled off the catch and shoot so he might not be a good fit for a point guard who likes to drive and kick out...

You see what I mean?

Probably. People keep talking about him like he's Arvydas Sabonis reincarnated, but I turn on the game tape and watch him as a sophomore get completely manhandled in college. I know there's a long line of excuses queued up for his weak play, but ultimately how often does a guy like that actually turn into a good NBA player? It's not like he is some 18 year old twink, this is a guy who has had more quality experience and better instruction than most American prospects of his same age.

Still, I wouldn't jump off a bridge if we drafted him. He might eventually become a quality NBA starter, at a position we are desperately weak at, and there is zero chance of him being immediately good enough to affect our chances with Wiggins. There aren't exactly any obvious franchise changing talents we would be picking him over at #4. If the Cavs grab him at #1, I expect him to eventually become an honorable mention in "worst #1 picks of the last however many years" discussions.

Can you share me some instances when he got manhandled?

Because I can certainly show you times when he wasn't

Len vs. Noel/Cauley-Stein: .556 field goal percentage, 23 points, 12 rebounds, 4 blocks

Everyone thinks Bennett is another Larry Johnson. For every LJ there are 35 guys in that mold who aren't worth a #4 pick. Here's one of them.

Larry Was a post up nightmare. in my limited views of Bennett he did not seem like a post guy...explosive dunking and attack the basket but not the off the dribble spins and flip shots.

Asking someone on the internet to do something is always going to leave you disappointed.
