I don't get where people think 'quality starters' come from. You can say an early draft pick, but that isn't guaranteed, especially for year one. You can say FA, but we spent the money we had on 3 DBs who we think can compete. I'm not losing any sleep over not choosing Trufant over Star. I'm not losing any sleep over not getting Alford over KK. Godfrey is a quality starter, Florence will be a quality starter. Josh Thomas is going to be a quality starter. I think DJ Campbell was quality when he played last year and if Mitchell or Lester beat him out, then I assume they'll be even better. Our babies have been learning how to fly last year and some are expected to take off this year, then we can say we have quality starters. If not then we'll draft some new ones.

Secondary from the Superbowl run featured Mike Minter at safety, who we can all agree is better than Charles Godfrey will ever be. Deon Grant was the other safety and didn't stick around, but he went on to start every single game for Jacksonville and Seattle between 2004-2009. The corners might be a toss up between today's squad and the '03 squad, but I'd take the '03 secondary over the current one every time.

the legend of minter continues to be bigger than the player

Grant was a ball hawking talent coming out of Tenn. I think the cracked hip stunted his growth some. He was pretty average in the end but he did remain a starter in the league for some time. I think he probably had his best statistical seasons here even though he won a SB with the Giants.

Don't sleep on Dockery at CB. I think he showed some talent last year too along with Thomas.

Bar injuries I'd be shocked to see Naka a starting safety next year.

Dock played well with his time on the field, but I don't see him making tge roster. Only because of the numbers game. We'll keep 4-5 CBs and 4-5 Ss. If I had to guess id say it'll be like this -

CBs - Flo/Norman/Thomas/Cap/Moore

Ss - Godfrey/Mitchell/Campbell/Lester

I think if Dockery was to make the team it'd be Moores spot. The only problem I see in that is Moores versatility. He can and may play some FS.

It is always just a matter of perspective. I see the possibility for improvement in our secondary. With growth from the kids, and an influx of competition. Mixed with stronger leadership and strong coaching. Just sounds good to me.

With the pressure we can generate with just 4, I can see Rivera wanting to be a little more aggressive with the DBs. Giving the QB a smaller window for completions. Raising the possibilities for mistakes. Win the turnover battle, and give our O more opportunities. With the new guys and kids all fighting for playing time. I can see the quality of play improving.

It is not a requisite that you feel this way. To me, I would rather be giddy with excitement. Than the alternative. To my perspective, things look pretty darn good. And I can live with that.

And GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
