Monta Ellis to Choose Team - Charlotte Among Them

Monta Ellis chose to pick up his early termination option on the last year of his deal making him a free agent this off season.

Although a history of injury, Monta Ellis has been a productive player when he plays and brings intensity on both the offense and defensive ends of the floor.  His option for next year was around 11mil and I think it would be difficult for him to beat that salary in the open market, however I think he is looking to lock up a long term deal instead of making bank and dealing with the frustrations of Milwaukee.

Picking up Ellis would probably mean that we choose to not re-sign Henderson as Ellis would become our starting 2 guard with MKG playing SF.  I know he isn't the A-lister we were hoping for, but I think he is a realistic option and could easily be a fan favorite for the new Hornets.

Seen it reported earlier. It would be a good pick up and a great backcourt. But, wouldn't it just be the same thing as a Golden State's Curry/Ellis or Bucks' Jennings/Ellis??

I'd either take McLemore if he's there, or hold the spot for a Wiggins/Parker (SF, but should be able to play SG in the NBA) if we're lucky next year. Ellis is good but he's not the answer to get us where we want. He's a two guard and very similar to Kemba. If we want to spend money, Hickson is the way to go.

I'll pass.  We have Kemba.  Ellis is good but would demand the ball a lot and take a lot of shots.  I would hold off until next offseason to start shopping unless someone just drops in our lap(CP3/Howard but thats very doubtful)

    • Random,  if the Giants do take Carter... and try to trade Kayvon...  I would think about it. If Sanders gets to 8 and they want to trade up from 3(I know that's far) by adding Kayvon and pick swaps in next couple rds and a future 1st or 2nd maybe... Id be game. They pick at the top of each rd, so we'd get talent spill over, a pass rusher with yout/ skill and still have that 34 pick to get a wr etc.
    • Those guys you mentioned are ILB at the next level. They will be really good too. We could use any of them and like you I hope we can get one of them later on in the draft. The teams need on defense is great than the amount of picks they have. If they are sticking with the 3-4 base they will need another ILB and a OLB that can play DE in 4-3 packages. The front 7 is far from complete and the secondary will not get every need addressed this offseason. The talent is just not going to be available when we are picking I'm afraid.
    • There are very few players in this draft that don't have a concern that could cause someone to not like them---I think the longer a player hangs around the top 10 (beginning in February) the more their flaws could withstand the scrutiny. Some fall too far, in my opinion, and are thrown into the scratch and dent bin.  Jack Sawyer (Ohio State) comes to mind, Shavon Revel (East Carolina), Restrepo (Miami).  I wonder if it is not that we found things through research, it could be that we exploited trivial things.  You can't measure the "it" factor. Those three just mentioned--I would have no problem drafting them at a discount.  Restrepo ran a 4.8--not as big a deal as people think--he is going to be a chain-moving slot--he will be sliding underneath, finding a hole in the zone, etc.  Great hands, great attitude.  I take him in the fourth.  Jack Sawyer is the high motor over-achiever.  I think he can be a 8-10 sack guy, block a lot of passes, and hold the edge.  I take him in round 3 if they let him fall that far.  Revel could be one of the top 3 CBs--if he is there at 58, I take him.  When the flaw is what you see when you hear their names, you are blind to their other talents.
