Nate Chandler Switching Sides

I saw this on panthers.com and even did a search to see if anyone had posted it. 

 

My search resulted in ZERO so here goes.

 

I like this idea.  Chandler was drafted as a DT but with the addition of Cole, Star and KK the chances of him making the squad as a DT was small.  According to the article John Matsko think he has the skill to make the change. 

 

Obviously he is a work in progress but just looking at the picture this guy is solid.  It would be very cool to see him make the transition to Tackle.   Could he eventually be Gross's replacement?

well the plus is he knows the dline moves firsthand which should at least give him an edge since he knows what to expect.  His biggest challenge will be footwork to counter those moves.

Well I think it had alot to do with what they saw when he was on the practice squad. 

 

What a story this would be if we ended up with a replacement on the roster for Gross and didn't have to waste a top pick to get him. 

 

The tough part is.  No way we are going to be able to hide him on the P.S. (if he still eligible)  Plus he wouldn't clear waivers.  So we are pretty much stuck with him on the roster though he is probably still raw.

 

But as ThunderKat notes he knows Dline moves so that is an advantage.

so many good stories to root for on this team.  we need line depth and gettleman said your guy is often on your roster...so let it be true in this case.

yeah I read it the other day, and he actually played TE and OL in college his 1st 2 years before switching to DL. Now he is back to OL.

Same measurables as Gross.

 

Chandler 6'4" 310

Gross 6'4" 305

 

I have tried to find the 2012 pre-draft guide on Nate Chandler but the only ones I could find did not list his pros and cons.  The guy has got to be athletic just for them to consider moving him.  So I am hoping he makes the transition smoothly and becomes a valuable depth for our offense.

 

I would love to see him sit out the year and just learn from the Master.

I really don't give a poo if I have reposted a similiar topic or not.  I was being semi-concerned that I was but you have made it certain I don't do it again.  I didn't find it, you did.  So for now on, I'll post because no matter what someone is going to make a comment about reposting or point out, as you did, that it has been posted before.

I disagree, Dave.  I think he will spend the year on the PS learning the LT position.  Currently, he is a project/hypothetical OT and a raw DT who would not have made the roster as a DT.

about your second sentence--that would be great, even if he never becomes more than depth.  Chandler is an athlete with size and strength.  Gross will be a great teacher and he has been shadowing Gross.  He is a longshot, but we have no depth behind Gross anyway.  I like the move.

While that would be a great idea.  He'll never make it to the practice squad.  We have to waive him before we can shuttle him to the Practice Squad.  Some team will want him, they will waste a roster spot to take him from us.   Think about it.  He played DT last year after being an UDFA and now we are move him to Tackle? Most teams know that is not a common move.  That to me is screaming GEM. I am sure other teams are watching. WE cut him and try and put him on the practice squad.  He'll never make it.

 

I agree he is a work in progress.  He'll be apart of your 53 man roster.

He also played OL in college as well.
