Owned a timeshare in Aruba for many years- sold it in 2008. Aruba is very expensive compared to the other Caribbean islands, although some of the best restaurants I've ever eaten in are there. The beach space is limited so the hotels just keep building on top of each other to the point they are very crowded along with the beaches. Last time I visited Aruba, we were 6 couples and rented a villa up the coast toward the lighthouse for $7500 for the week (between 6 couples, pretty cheap). Had its own private beach and a pool. If you could find a condo or small private rental on its own beach away from the hotels, Aruba wouldn't be so bad. Live on the economy instead of the tourist dollar.

Been going to Mexico for about 4 straight years and absolutely love the Mayan Riviera. Venture to the Mayan ruins every visit trying to find a new place to explore. Venture just a little further south and you've got Belize, also. Although Belize isn't as "touristy," it's cool being out there on your own- it's a lot less expensive that way.

I've thought some of those resort destinations are a little overrated, you could go to the wild dunes resort and have just as good of a time in and around charleston(cool old south city if you never been) and save the travel expenses

Charelston is easily my in my top 5 favorite cites in the US, only places that compares to it as far as atmosphere goes is Savannah

Uhhhhh, Wilmington is a much closer cousin to Charleston than Savannah.

That said I prefer the nightlife of ILM over both.

C town dies at night in the winter.

My sister and her BF went to Punta Cana in middle of May.  Said it was an excellent vacation.  All inclusive.

That is the package they did.  Said it cost about $1200 a person including flights.  Week vacation.

Agreed, of all the places I have been, Caymen Islands are my favorite.

Agreed.....incredible there.

But, you can drop some serious cash.  Definitely not a cheap place.

We stayed on Cayman Brac (small island) when we went there.  But, we were there strictly for scuba diving, and Cayman Brac has much better diving than the Big Island.

We did venture over to the main island for a couple of evenings and it was fantastic.

Just got back from there.

Need to stay in the resort after too late in the evening.

My favorite spot on our cruises have been Costa Maya and St.Thomas/St. John.

For $3k you could both easily go to either of these places plus more on a cruise line or direct flights.

I would also recommend the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas. We had a blast there, too.
