Gettleman pleased as Carolina Panthers wrap up minicamp

Lots of good stuff here.  I am going to trust Gettlemen as a talent evaluator until he proves otherwise....his resume suggests he is good.  Like hearing what he has to say.

 

We feel we’re really strong in some spots, important spots. I feel really good about where we are,” Gettleman said. “Cam’s had a really good spring in all facets of the game. Really at the end of the day, I think this is a club that understands when it’s time to go to work. And they’ve really had a heck of a spring.

The good thing is, he could be right.  Nice to have hope anyway.  

 

I think that because Gettlemen has so much more real football experience than his predecessor, he might be able to make a difference in several areas.  Why not be positive?

Agreeed. 

 

Gettleman can probably assist, give Rivera some good advice and suggestions regarding various facets of the team (and not just drafting and contracts), unlike his dubious predecessor.

If you can't be positive in June then when? Skeptics say they will be if we are successful during the early part of the season. But they won't, because they will still be the cautionary maven warning us that things can change with one injury to a key position undoing everything in a heartbeat.  Skeptics will remain so even in the face of success.  It is their nature. They get spurned once or twice and start withholding  their emotional commitment. The problem is that only those people who fully commit themselves by putting everything on the line can really enjoy the full emotional spectrum of the rollercoaster ride that is an NFL campaign. If you have no skin in the game you can't be all in. I encourage everyone to jump on.  Feel free to wait until you are convinced things are going well before making a commitment, but remember that the longer you wait to jump aboard, the shorter the ride. Why miss some of the ride when it could be a good one. After all, if we start off slow again, you can always jump off and let us all know you predicted it. Until then, take a chance; Jump on board. That way you can play both sides against the middle. What do you have to lose????

Gettleman isn't the type to toot his own horn.  Talking up aspects of the team at this point is to help build the excitement for 2013. he is also encouraging the players and showing he has confidence in the team.  That is what GMs do in June.  Gettlemen is a grinder and a hard worker not a glory hound.  If he thinks we have some holes watch for him to pick up some more players along the way.  He is not about looking good or being right, he is about building the team to be the best it can be.  He knows that once the season starts his success or failure will be self-evident. 

 

Actually Rivera did comment on the coaches in OTAs he just didn't include himself.  Much like Gettleman, they praise the team not themselves.

You are the one that got me thinking about the relationship between Rivera and Gettlemen. Two football guys watching film and talking football. For some reason, I like that scenario. Thanks for that.

Rivera and Gettlemen are two peas in a pod. If all goes as planned, they just may be together for a long time. I can live with that.
