My problem with Armanti is this

4 Questions

1. How do you not score on this play?

2. Wasn't he suppose to be fast at least??

3. If he isn't fast then where was the agility and juking to beat the last defender?? Why did he go down so easily??

4. So he's not big, fast, or can make people miss in the open field. What is his upside and value for this team??

it's not like he is Pilares vs. Lions slow here. In that moment Armanti was thinking don't fumble, we have a lead. Do you want a guy who does not touch the ball taking chances for extra yards when we have a lead? Do you want to win? He knew he had a big play and yeah if he had gotten tackled with the ball as a receiver ever before maybe he would've done some Houdini poo or at least tried a juke. I applaud him for not being a dumb bastard and staying away from unneeded risks.

This has to stop being a excuse.

Randel El was doing the same transition and put up numbers his 1st year in the league.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/3590/antwaan-randle-el

Last year should have been make or break. I just don't see his value other then he works real hard and guys like him.

Sounds like Rudy to me.

Randle El got drafted by a stable org and didn't have a head coach who never wanted him drafted in the first place and also happened to be in a lame duck year. I get you don't like Edwards, but those situations don't compare.

Like I've said though, this is all a moot point because if he doesn't step up this year he's gone anyways.

The guy had a good angle on him.Gettis, Ginn, even prime Smith may not have even scored on that play. Lighten up. He made a clutch grab which is a start. If he makes a cut on that play then that just buys more time for Redskins defenders to catch him. He got as far down field as he good which was the best move.

Are you fuging crazy.

Even with a angle he wouldn't have caught Ginn, Gettis or Smith. I don't even think he would have caught Lafell.

And all these guys would have made some sort of move instead of just being taking down.

Did you notice Smith had taken out 2 of the guys chasing Edwards. This was a 1 on 1 situation in the open field. Something a "punt returner' is suppose to be great at. You can sit here and make some bull poo excuse for that play ended up as a 1st and goal at the 15 instead of a TD.

I say it again because you obviously haven't been a panther fan for long.

But we heard the same poo year after year after year about Jarret. How he was making plays all over the field during practice and how this would be the year he breaks out.

The funny part is Jarret had more production then Armanti in the same time frame.

Haven't been a fan for long lol seriously? Oh no you didn't!

Jarrett was actually a real WR coming out of college, and a very touted prospect. The dude had no heart.

Last I checked Edwards hasn't been called out by his teammates for being lazy or had off the field troubles.

I can't believe that you are condemning a guy who locked up a game for us by using great quickness to run a great route that gained 80 yards. He won us that game with that play.

He is a fuging "punt returner" he was drafted for his ability to make people miss and agility. In a 1 on1 situation his mind set should have been TD.

I want EVERBODY on this team to do well in camp and training camp. So i don't know why anybody would feel irked if somebody was doing well. Doesn't make any sense.

Yeah I want Gettleman on anxiety meds trying to make our cuts. So much talent he's scared to death he might cut a pro bowler.

WTF does that have to do with the conversation.

The point was that the same poo was said year after year after year about Jarret in Mini camps and TC. And it all added up to nothing.

Like I said I will wait and see if it translate to a situation where he isn't facing teammates. Before I think it will amount to anything. I've heard this same practice all star poo before.

My big problem is you have actually beat writers who think he's locked up a spot because of this poo.

Holy poo are you still debating that they were even remotely comparable as prospects coming into the NFL?

Dude reading comprehension look into it.

I'm not condemning the "play". I'm questioning the ability he supposedly has.

When he was drafted he was suppose to be quick, fast and have the ability to make people miss in the open field. This plays shows something is wrong with the scouting report.

The quarterback is often one of your best athletes both physically and mentally. All reports are that Edwards was very athletic in college.  There is no reason he believe that he doesn't have the skills to be a receiver. In Year 1 he admitted he wasn't even in good enough shape to be a receiver given all the running they do on every play.  Everyone knows it takes a few years for even great college receivers to turn into good NFL receivers.  If it took him a year or two more to make up all that ground, it is understandable.  WR is one of the more difficult positions to learn in the NFL.  I prefer to think that Proehl is really helping him reach his potential.  I hope we can both be happy about him when all things are said and done this year.

When we signed him back in 2010, I thought we had the steal of the draft.  I thought with his athletism he would really explode but what I failed to realize was he wasn't skilled enough as a WR.

2010 with Clausen at the helm wasn't much of a help. (Davidson the Joke OC)

2011 no OTAs or Training camps  (Chudz)

2012 slightly improved (Chudz)

2013 Contract Year and settling into a role as a WR. (Shula)

We kept him around for 3 years for a reason.  I would hope that reason will show in 2013.

I hear all the "Training Camp Hero", "Great without Pads" and other negative comments about him.  And I have even bandwagoned a couple of times on the bashing because I saw no value in retaining him.

This off-season seems to me AE name seems to be popping up more frequently.  Maybe it is a combination of finally getting skilled enough to make a difference and Shula.  Maybe Shula sees his value.

What I have learned over the many years I have been with this forum is pessimism is more prevalent than optimism.   More of our fans are doom and gloom.   I try to be more optimistic and believe that maybe we are about to turn the corner.  What's sad is when we do start to win those pessimistic fans turn into the greatest fans EVER.

I believe (hope) that AE has finally reached a point where he is comfortable with his route running, understands what he needs to do to be successful and has learned toughness from probably the greatest 5"9" receiver the NFL has ever seen.  (Say this cause he went up and fought for and won a battle with a DB for the ball)

Everyone wants to say "Well it is only in shorts"  I don't see others excelling like he is and they are in shorts as well.  They are on an equal playing field so to me that is not a fair assessment but haters will hate.
