Best SUV for the beach and large dog

I see them all the time up here.

Issue is I have two boys. We fill the Acura MDX to the brim to go to the beach for 2-3 weeks without a pet. Adding a dog crate for a massive dog is going to be impossible.

LOL where you stay at?

Yeah, what size tires has an MDX got? I wouldn't want to try one of those on the sand for very far... I don't think that vehicle is really designed for that is it?

Not really, but you see them quite often on the sand.

My Uncle who comes every year drives this which does great.

Yep... I've seen station wagons, two wheel drive pickups, little 4wd Subarus, etc. go out at Carolina Beach and get immediately stuck and then the drivers get out and scratch their heads... lol

Normal cars, 4wd or not, can't drive in a foot of sand.

In corolla the 4WDs just park at the beach exit where the sand gets soft and charge $20 to tow you out. They literally do it all day

Buy an old beater K5. Can't beat it on the sand.

I had one of these when I turned 16.

Was my favorite truck I have ever had.

Also was a beast on the beach, would take the hard top off and just get weird with that thing.

It's an option. Get a cherokee beater with big tires like Darth suggested or a k5. Maybe not as comfortable for a 6 hour drive to OBX.

I also see people tow their Cherokee to the beach

True statement on the k5.

Awesome trucks, but pretty hard to find in good shape, that don't cost an arm.

Get one of these: http://www.boyceequipment.com/#!m35a3-2-12-ton-truck-inventory/c15kp

When I used to hang out at Carolina Beach, there was a guy that had one of these and all he'd do all day was drive around the 4WD access pulling Hummers, Denalis and Jeeps out of deep sand or trenches. Good luck finding a place to park it in when you're not using it though.
