Cam wants a run game

The read option will be used. RR said it. but it will be used sparingly, and not as a staple.

spreading the ball to the RB's (3-4 or them to be exact) and still having the threat of Cam running... besides play action and screens with tolbert.. and well let's not forget that fact that Cam can pass too... I like the idea of more power running.

but maybe I'm just crazy. LOL

Exactly.

It will be a wrinkle in the offense , not a focus or staple of the offense.

Those that can't accept this will be sorely disappointed...yes CRA, that is you.

Every statement and indication is that we will re-emphasize it and feature the power running if our RB stable. The coaches have said it...the players have said it. Why it is so hard for some veto understand and accept is beyond me.

Cam is our QB....not our RB.

Anyone who can't see or accept that needs their head checked.

lol....

It was a wrinkle in 28 of 32 games.

What exactly can't I understand. 28 of 32 defines the read option in Carolina.....not the 4 games that started the 2012 season.

Sorry you can't accept Cam is the future and not hanging on to the repeat hope of the 2010 thousand yard RBs.

Cam is a multi dimensional force that will go down as the greatest rusher from the QB spot in NFL history....accept it. It isn't a bad thing. None of that makes him a RB. Read option nor Cam running in general is going away....

Funny how posters think they know what is going to happen despite the coaches and GM saying it won't. Forget that Gettleman says that Newton won't run much and will be used as a pocket passer.  Lets forget that Rivera said we wouldn't be emphasizing the read option and will go to a more traditional offense.

Oh that's right, Head coaches don't call plays so Shula will do what he wants to do and ignore the head coach who hired him.  And Gettleman may be the boss and have the last word on everything (which has been well documented) but he won't get involved in play calling.  Forget that he is a football guy who is at every practice. He won't have input.   Right CRA????

Truth is we are going to run everything on our playlist. Based on what we do well and who we are playing we will modify our playcalling from week to week.  But after seeing what happened to  RGIII and will happen to Kapernick or Wilson if they run like last year, there is going to be a de-emphasis on running quarterbacks.  It is just too risky and these guys get paid a ton. No GM or coach wants their QB to go down particularly on a designed running play.  Newton will run for sure, but  mostly to escape pressure or in short yardage situations.  We won't be using the read option unless we are pitching or using the dive element.  Cam will not be the top rusher on the team this year.  That you can take to the bank.

How can you be so dense and stubborn?

Gettleman said Cam won't run as much. Rivera said that Cam won't run as much. Shula has said that Cam won't run as much. The SrB's have public ally stated that Shula told them they are going to rely on the power fame more.

Yet, somehow you think that you know better.

You are teetering on the edge of dillusional.

Funny how you knock posters and then do exactly the same thing.

Gettlemen never has actually said Newton wouldn't run much.....you did. You are just spinning a comment on Gettlemen's standard view of how QBs have generally played the game prior to arriving here. YOU then just proceeded to tell us all exactly how Shula will run the read option. YOU then tell us exactly when Cam will and won't run. None of which has been addressed by coaches

Pot meet kettle.

Both Rivera and Gettlemen have said the read option will stay....and it wasn't the focus of our offense in 28 of 32 games.

RGIII is built like a twig, has a reputation dating back to college and being a magnet for contact, with a injury history.....so yeah, he is such a great comparison in terms of how he should play the game with Cam.

Cam will rush for 500-800 yards. Like in 2011 and 2012.....he wasn't the leading rusher bc he ran too much last year. Which is what you imply. He was he leading rusher bc we split carries with 3 RBs so none will have a big number....and 2 of them had issues.

Gettlemen is a GM. Of course he has input....all do. Will he tell RR what will and won't be called as you suggest? Not likely....only examples of that are by OWNERS. He isn't a coach. Rivera will decide what goes down ultimately on the field...

Where do you get your information?  You aren't getting it from Panthers.com. interviews or the various outlets.  They are saying the opposite of you.

Gettlemen did say we would not use the read option like we did last year.  He also said Cam would be more of a pocket passer.  He also we would go to a  more traditional power running system which for every football fan means the  quarterback is not running much and the running backs will do most all the work.

No one said he wouldn't run, simply there won't be that many quarterback designed runs.  newton will get his yards escaping rushers and on a few designed plays.

Since Rivera and Gettleman are supposed on the same page, they will have the same philosophy which will drive the playcalling.  They say Newton won't run as much and they won't rely on the read option as a staple of the offense. Anything else is fantasy and wishful thinking on your part.

Believe what you want but the back and forth isn't changing anyone's mind. We are listening to the coaches and what they are telling us.  Apparently you are out in left field listening to the beat of your own drum.

If we really wanted to run the ball then why have we not signed a rg that can run block? It makes all the difference in the world when you have a line that can run block

We did Kugbila........ They know the situation for the RG  and they keep on repeating they want the run game..... yet they still haven't got any RG from FA .....(unless they are waiting after cuts)  i think they believe that Kugbila or someone else in the roster is gonna solve the problem

I don't think anyone has a problem when Cam scrambles, or has a few well designed runs in space.

However, too much of the short yardage, Read Option or goal line running is not good for Cam in the long run.

Cam needs to be a QB (which I think he will be this year--as his Rookie Season, and second half of 2012), looking to throw, who runs when required.  So whether this means Cam runs for 500 yards, or 700; I don't care as long as he follows this formula.

Obviously, the Panthers are going to attempt to pry 200-400 more rush yards out of their RB's in 2013. However, even if they don't/can't: Cam will probably throw for those yards anyway. Play Action (as it was in Cam's Rookie season) and short, intermediate passing routes, will be very helpful to Cam and the Panthers in 2013. This appears to be a key focus for them going into the upcoming season.

Based off what we hear from the Panthers: It's not so much the Panthers are going to run more per se in 2013. They just won't be doing it out of the Read Option as much, and will attempt to reduce much of Cam's short yardage and goal line runs (along with the aforementioned short, intermediate, and play action passing). Just look at how Tolbert was used effectively toward the end of the season in short yardage/goal line situations?

Cam is the best thing we have in short yardage and goal line situation  nearly impossible to stop him ....Tolbert is in second place....... Cam's ability  in short yardage, goal line, Scrambling and design runs make him what he is ....you take that away from him and your taking his identity away........ His running threat along with the RB corp make our offense dangerous and hard to defend..........If panthers have a healthy O-line and Kugbila is our starting RG  ( which i think he will be when the season starts) we will have a top 5 rushing attack. I think this year strength in the OL is going to be the Right side with Kugbila and Bell ... throw in Amini in on the left side and where going to have some road graders for the run game.

And where are you getting your info from my friend.......find some links to videos and interviews if you can.. I agree with you that Cam want be the team rushing leader because one of our RB is going to be it.......hence like the redskin where RGIII had around 800 yds while  Morris had 1400 yds..........This doesn't mean Cam will  be down in his rushing yds....Cam is still going to get his yards between 500-800 yds maybe more with a better running ame.......  and to your point about Gettleman remember that RIvera was given his chance by the Owner before Gettlemen even took a single step in Carolina ...this tells you that Richardson has  faith in his coaching ability.......Gettlemen is going to be running the overall football operation and have say in 53 man roster..but the coaching is going to be left to the coaches.....of course they are going to give each other advice  to improve the teams but i don't think either one is going interfere with each other's job.

Cam will run less than 125 times this year.  Who knows how many yards that will entail.  It simply means that him running won't be a big part of the offense like under Chud.

As for Rivera, he has said that he and Gettleman are on the same page which means to anyone with a modicum of understanding that either Rivera and he were already on the same page or Gettleman has told Rivera what he wants to have happen and Rivera is going to do it. Gettleman surely sounds like someone who knows what he wants and it going to get it.  He also has said he has faith in Rivera. And I am sure that the coaches will call the plays that isn't even up for debate.  I am also sure that if Gettleman says he doesn't want Newton hurt running the ball and wants a traditional offense, that will directly impact the playcalling.  They will do what he wants them to do.  You don't have to call every play to influence the playcalling.  To assume that Gettleman won't analyze every play and offer his advice on what to do more of and what to stop doing is naive.  He is a football guy who watches film constantly.  He is going to be involved in every aspect of the team including gameplanning and evaluation of each player.

Hmmmh.

Gettleman, probably looked at the film from 2012, 2011, and said to Rivera; "This Guy [Newton] is Big and strong and can throw. So why the hell did you have him running so much last year!?" " Let the guy throw, and the RB's run the ball" Lol.

Find me any post where a coach of our football teams backs anything you said in that post.

1. No coach has said Newton won't run much

2. No coach has said when Cam will run or how the read option will be ran going forward

Again, you are doing what you are bashing others about...

Read option was the focus of our O for 4 games out of 32. Those 4 games don't define it, the other 28 do....and it was a wrinkle in those other 28. It will remain in the O just like it was in the 28....an option/wrinkle as both coach and GM have stated.
