Convenient for me? WTF does that have to do with this discussion. You are so damn negative that you cannot even see my point.

Point is you don't have to have BIG NAMES to play good.

Cousin and Howard were average CBs when they came in. However we had a dominate D-Line and they were more than adaquate. Which is exactly what I believe we will be this year.

Grant I believe went to Jacksonville after here and his production dropped most likely because his D-Line was no where near as dominate as ours was. Then he ended his career with the NYG and won a super bowl with a defense that had a top tier D-Line.

What you need to do is put down your NFL trading cards and look at the whole picture. It is a team event, not individually. As individuals they may not be Pro Bowl Caliber players but put a good front seven in front of them and poor to mediocre players become good to very good. In other words we'll be like I said. AS good as any.

I am looking at the whole picture... you're looking at what they did last year (on another team no less) as your gauge on how good we'll be. Watch and See.

your posting speaks for itself. it's obvious you've invested a lot of time and energy rationalizing in your head that this team is better than it actually is, while given no indication that things are actually going to change. no you don't need pro bowlers at every position but for the ones you don't you at least need competent, reliable players in general (ex. minter) and godfrey's never proven in 5 seasons to even be competent or shown consistency. mike mitchell was overdrafted like 5 rounds because the raiders scouting staff is retarded. i feel good about a lot of positions on the team. safety is definitely not one of them and unlike you i'm not afraid to admit it

Just because Safety HAS been a sore spot, does not automatically mean it WILL be again this year.

Kids grow, schemes are learned, improvement can be made. But let's just jump to worse case scenario. Ah the Huddlez, where the unhappy come to share their gifts.

You realize you're assuming it will be the best case scenario (that they will play better) right?  Much more realistic and rational to assume we're going to see what we've seen for years now than the other way around....

Im not ignoring any past.

I certainly don't wear blinders.

Do I have high hopes and expectations. Of course I do. Does that set me up for disappointment should the team not live up to them?

That's part of being a fan.

at some point reality has to hit. when your team fails year in and year out to produce even a winning season, you have to come to expect that. reality does not have to be counter to being a fan. you don't have to have both high hopes AND high expectations and being absent of one or the other or even both doesn't not make you a fan.

i have high hopes. i have low expectations. i don't care if others don't share that pov and i don't advocate it. but it happens...and it's ok.

I agree with this completely, I hate that some people feel like it has to be an all or nothing approach to being a fan.  Do I hope our team wins a Super Bowl every season?  Of course.  Do I realistically expect us to be Championship contenders this year?  Not until the team shows me they can perform at a high level roughly an entire game for 19 games.  If that makes me a bandwagon basher or whatever dumb name some of you want to peg me as then so be it.....

Majority means NOT ALL.  A.H.

Can you clarify if A.H stands for A$$hole or A$$hat? I like A$$hat better. If you want, I can play this game all day. I have time to Google "DaveThePanther2008 prediction" and the results are fantabulous.

Oh look!......

I am of the belief that Newton will NOT start at all in 2011. However, I replied to a post on FB and it blew up. So I thought I would get the Huddles opinion.

And so defiant, so angry:

Never called you a name. Just said you were a wine and cheese fan.................however..............now I will. You are a MORON if you think Newton will not start! Yes he has zero knowledge of the pro game terminology. That is why you will be in the bottom of the NFC south for years to come.

He will start but not in 2011 and if by chance he starts in 2011 it will be because he is ready and at minimum 1/2 way into the season.

As far as Morons go you only have to look into the mirror. Your hapless knowledge about Newton or what he has to learn before becoming the starting QB is very clear.

So do me a big favor...and take a long walk off a short pier. and as the Great Buford T. Justice Said ""F__K OFF""

I'm sure there's some lovely things about Newton said by me prior to him being drafted.  The difference is I've already owned up to them and admitted I was completely wrong.  Just like I do with any other prediction I'm wrong on.....

No....it is more likely that our Secondary will play better than what we have seen BECAUSE our Front 7 (and especially DLine) is much better than it has been in many years.

To assume that they won't be better is the flawed logic.

I still don't see our front seven helping Godfrey learn how to cover and play centerfield worth a damn but to each their own.  Also you're counting on a rookie DT to make an immediate impact and while I love Star I just don't know if he's doing that right out of the gate.  Even with our pass rush last year our safeties still looked horrendous.  Is it really that flawed to think they will still be below average....

i'm wrong quite often. i always have been. i'm right a good bit as well, but i'd be surprised if the number of things i called right was anywhere near the giant number of things i get wrong.

i had some bozo in here start arguing with me about something i was saying at that point and how it was different than what i was saying before. it wasn't a big deal to me. i changed my mind about something. big deal. the guy acted like i was being dismissive or something...in fact i don't think i knew what he was wanting from me. i didn't deny saying what i said and admitted i thought differently. that usually implies i thought i was wrong before.

anyway....

the moments i dread are clutch situations where our front seven isn't perfect and we have to rely solely on the ability of the secondary...like that first game in atlanta. it's those situations that having a poor secondary will bite you in the butt.

I think he has a better chance of making an immediate impact because of the fact we will be able to rotate him out enough to keep him fresh.

Also, the mentality hardy is bringin to the d-line and kuechly is bringing to the defense as a whole, should allow the team to rally around each other and get the job done.

Here's to high hopes!

I've got nothing against high hopes, but believing the light is just going to turn on for Godfrey when it hasn't in 5 years just isn't rational...

I agree with you that the young guys have to step up.  I am only meaning that I don't think it is near as big an issue as some on here think it is.

But, only time will tell.....and soon we will know.

I hope I am right....but hey, I am wrong at least half of the time.
