I'd love it if it were a sign-and-trade, so he'd be locked in for a few years.

 

To get a PF/C with nearly 10 years on his legs, who would take max, max money to come here, and turn the Hornets into a modern version of the Raptors while Bosh was there with a perpetual 6 or 7 seed?  No thank you.

I'm not saying I want him or not, but you guys do realize that he's basically a 22+ppg 9rbpg player right?  His game has went down since going to Miami because of Wade/Lebron.    This draft is also terrible, so we really wouldn't be losing much.  Guy from YahooSports was on 610 this morning saying we should definitely do it because the draft is so bad.  I know some of you are worried about cap, but why?  We are most likely not going to bring someone in anyway.  We have to spend more money to even hit the minimum I believe.  If we need more cap, we can amnesty Tyrus.  If we're rebuilding, the contracts will be cheap anyway.  Moneywise, I think we're probably OK and it's possible we get a different contract in a sign and trade, I'm not sure. 

 

Holding out for some player next year is silly, I don't understand how people haven't learned how the NBA draft works.  The worst team hasn't got the #1 pick in years, maybe even a DECADE.  This isn't the NFL.  You can't bank on the draft.   Personally, I'd take making the playoffs at all for multiple years in a row.  It would build up our fanbase and we always have a shot.   The one year we DID make the playoffs, the hype in the city was at an all-time high, and not because anyone thought we could make a run, but because we MADE it there.  The Panthers would have a better fanbase if we ever made playoffs back-to-back years.   So if you gave me the choice of making the playoffs each year, even a low seed, versus sitting around on our hands with a terrible team hoping a "once-in-a-decade" player is in the draft AND we have a good pick, I'll take the playoffs each time.  Not to mention, if we start winning and become a bit more respectable, we'll bring in people easier.

 

Bosh DOES look rediculous, and I think he is soft a lot of times, but it's hard to pass up 22ppg and 9rbr PF/C that can shoot the occasional 3-ball when this team desperately needs someone to score.  He would automatically become the best Bobcat player ever.  And if some amazing miracle happened and we get someone to play down low with him that isn't terrible, we may have a fun team to watch.  Bosh is 29, I think he has at least 4 years left in him, maybe even more to contribute.

 

I'm mixed, I just don't think we can completely blow off the idea.  And then again, I'm still not sure this really has much merrit anyway.

Bringing in Chris Bosh does not put us in any better position than when we had Gerald Wallace and Stephen Jackson fighting for an 8 or 7 sedd in the eastern conference (see Toronto w/ Bosh).  Also, the risk of him coming for 1-2 years and leaving is very high which leaves us with worse draft position in 2 years and without a young stud we could potentially get in this draft.  I think we should hold on to our draft pick unless we can get Cousins or another young talent, and see if we can get any interest out of Howard, Paul, or Josh Smith, if not, just save our money til we find the right fit in lieu of spending money just to appease the fans.

Just a side note, but it's not like we HAVE to land the top pick in next year's draft.  A top 5 pick will land us a potential superstar (Wiggins, Parker, Randle, Smart, etc.)

 

As for trading this year's pick, what is better for the team in the long run...

 

1 to 2 years of Bosh and below average to mediocre teams, or possibly 10+ years of a guy like Bennett or Len?

 

 

I honestly am not sure adding Bosh even makes us a playoff team to be completely honest though.  The Heat, Pacers, Knicks, Bulls, Nets are all still clearly better, with the chance of teams like Cleveland, Boston, Atlanta, Philly, and Detroit still being ahead of us depending on their own rebuilding processes/injuries. 

 

It may have to do with the fact that I haven't been a fan/endured the losing as bad as some of you guys...but the blueprint for a small market team to contend has been laid out on this board by me and others time and time again.  Just look at the teams who have won titles, or even just got there to play for one.  Not just in the last 5 to 10 years...but in the history of the league.  Small market teams MUST draft a superstar or trade for a young one (and good luck with that).  Yeah, it sucks waiting...but there aren't many (if any) examples that prove otherwise.

Obviously I think it only works out if we get a new deal, if not, that changes it up.  And yes, we'd be better than with Jax and GW.  Bosh is a higher tier player than both of those guys.  I think making the playoffs, or having a chance to make them, will be good for team, put fans in the seats, etc.  The fact is, this team has been rebuilding for a decade, unless we sell seats, this team won't last long enough in Charlotte for us to rebuild.   

 

Cousins won't be coming here, and if he did, it would be bad.  I've read up on Cousins the last week or so, and most people agree that unless he goes to a winning atmosphere he's going to be unhappy and a cancer.  Howard, Paul, Smith, will NOT come to Charlotte, or at least, very small possibility. 

 

I'm still mixed, so we'll see.  It's possible our new coach has a plan and wants Bosh, we'll have to see.
