Making friends in a new town?

Don't worry, I've lived in Wilmington my entire life and I still only have like 5 people that I ever hangout with. But that's mainly because everyone seems to have gotten incredibly stupid, annoying, or arrogant since the last time I saw them.

 

Regardless, you're probably doing better than me. Just do your own thing in terms of the kayaking and fishing deal, and then work as much as you can.

Ok, I lived in Charlotte most of my life and all of my friends were people I met by circumstance, either by doing the same activity or through work and school, but again lived in Charlotte practically my whole life.

Now I'm in Greenville nc and been here about 8 months and while I've made a few friend by in large I still hardly know anyone in town, this is because of my work and class schedule, so anyone have any good suggestions on how to meet new people in a new town? Or more directly Greenville? It's just not something I'm used to as far as not knowing anyone in town.

 

When i moved back the the US none of our old friends were in town anymore and we left a really tight social group.

 

I have a weekly poker match which has gained me a friend or two and a good social group. Also have standing tee times Fri-Sun if I need to get out. Have gotten close with some neighbors. But it takes years to get tight with people as you get older. Everyone gets more comfortable and selfish with their own time.

 

Social interaction is healthy but if your aren't lonely I wouldn't worry too much and just let it happen. I love being by myself.

I've been in Shallotte for almost 4 years and I don't have any real friends here. Mostly because almost everyone I meet here is either a drug addict or fuging stupid.

Just go to Little River and gamble your paycheck every weekend. That is what I do when I am in that area

Or just hang out at Sharky's and get wasted and let your drunken personality naturally attract other people.

WARNING: those people will likely be alcohics and/or drug abusers. While they are dangerous to be around they are also usually the most interesting and fun until they puke in your car and then ask you for some money

Well, at risk of sounding like an a$$hole, do you really even have time for friends?

If you're working and in school, you may just need to suck on the fact that keeping up relationships (platonic or romantic) just isn't in the cards for you at the moment.

It's not fun, but it is temporary, right?

Doc I went through something similar when I moved to Auburn Al for work. I left a huge network of friends and family in NC. (Charlotte/Raleigh) I was 24/25 and the town stayed a consistent 18-22. I knew I was only there temporarily (3 years) but it was tough. Of course I lived above a bar so I drank downstairs, watched football, and met the occasional coed.

 

If Greenville isnt a permanent place then do not worry...focus on yourself (I assume you are there for grad school).

Yeah, I'm just here temporarily, at the most maybe 3 years, I'm here for a change in major and it was only offered at 3 schools and I chose ECU because I had family in the area but oh well, figured I'm just going to have to tough it.

Lol, yeah I got one of those going right now, so far it's been no dice but will see.

 

I've felt the need to do a Tosh.0 Critique of some of the people on there profiles, I means some of them are straight out clearly not all there mentally.
