NBA Finals Thread - (2) San Antonio Spurs vs. (1) Miami Heat

I'm convinced the Sac-LaL series was fixed, and I was convinced of that even before Donaghy came out and said so... Just ask anyone I talked to about it because I lost $25 on that series to a co-worker.

I'll never ever forget watching the game where the Lakers were on bounding from the baseline late in the game and suddenly Kobe hits Bibby dead in the nose with a elbow and knocks him down to get the ball. It was completely intentional, extremely blatant, and everyone in the arena and on TV saw it, and they completely ignored it.

When Donaghy's story came out, it just confirmed what I suspected all along.

Last night's game wasn't like that. There was enough both ways toward the end to negate any conspiracies.

I guess it depends on how you interpret these comments that he made about other officials. Is he saying that the officials acted on their own in the best interest of the NBA, or is he saying it came from higher up. Or is he lying altogether?

Yeah thats one of those things I just have no idea about.  Game 6 of the King/Lakers series was probably fixed- but realistically I dont think it was a concerted plan by the NBA higher ups to fix the game.  There is simply too much for the league to lose to pull some poo like that, maybe one or two people could pull it off if they keep everything quiet, but if you get caught the NBA is gonna lose hundreds of millions by turning away fans

Another thing to keep in mind: David Stern technically works for all the team owners- if an owner thinks David Stern fixed a game and cost his team a shot at a title (and all the money that comes with it), Stern is fired immediately and possibly facing a lawsuit.

Now if we look at soccer, a sport which occasionally has a high profile match fixing scandal, every single example I can think of involved individual teams paying off refs, usually for one or two high profile games.  So if I'm looking at possible suspects for fixing that Kings Lakers games, I'm gonna start in the Buss family

I don't think you get a cash prize for winning a championship.  But if you play extra games, that's definitely more money.  Not saying that is what happened, but it would for sure be a lot more money, especially a game 7.

You can just watch ANY normal NBA game and see what terrible officiating there is and how the popular teams/players get all the calls.  Not saying this series exactly is rigged, but the NBA as a whole has a lot of suspicious things going on.  The lottery and the Hornets veto-trade a couple years ago just add to it.

I don't think games are generally fixed by the NBA.  I really don't.  But that game 6 of the Sac-LA game was fixed by someone or some entity.  That I have little doubt about.

Perhaps some refs laid some bets or took some cash off a fixer's hands.  But no rational person could watch that game and not know something was up.

You're ridiculously arrogant. Yet you guys play the victim so well. You can tell me with a straight face that all Heat fans would have zero issues or complaints if the Spurs won last night? Yeah lol I don't believe that for a second.

I'm sorry but I'm not going to read every website on the internet to follow what every irrational fan is thinking.

In the championship of any sport, there will always be complaints about something. Especially the officials.

I'm pointing out a simple fact that in this very thread, that you're posting in, and presumably reading has lots of posts complaining about the officiating being "pro heat". Are you telling me that these posts aren't here? Or are you just being selective with what you pay attention to?

The bigger issue is that you like to paint anyone who doesn't agree with your anti-Lebron/Heat sentiment as a bandwagon hopping homer/bad fan and if you get called on it you try to play it off as if you're some netural observer. Instead of addressing that issue when you get called on it, you are continuing to create strawman arguments about different subjects.

A title is a huge cash cow for teams, not only from all the championship stuff people will buy but the excitement in the following years mean more ticket sales.  Hell, I'd be willing to bet that if the Kings won a title that year there would not be talk of moving the team now.

I think the problems with NBA officiating are overblown- there are a lot of subjective calls and its difficult to get every decision right in the moment.  The best players get to the line generally because they attack the basket, draw the attention of defenders and create contact, not because the refs bail them out every time they dribble inside. Thats not to say the refs are good, because a lot of them have personal biases and take over games by calling way too much (looking at you Joey Crawford), but I dont think there is any sort of consistent favoritism that effects the outcomes of games

Hell the bobcats shot more free throws than their opponents this year, and had a higher differential than the heat in the regular season http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/team/_/stat/differential-per-game/sort/avgFreeThrowsAttemptedDifference

Of course they are here. I think you're exaggerating the amount of it in this thread.

It's funny you mention labels, because I've been labeled a hater by just about every Heat fan I've encountered in this thread just because I have the audacity to offer commentary that is not always slurping their hero.

I've done nothing but address the issue. People can read or not read my posts, it's a personal choice.

Here are some of the posts that I'd say are complaining about the officials affecting the outcome of the game in favor of the Heat.  I'm not even going to count posts that are just complaining about one specific call, because well, it's just one play.

poo is rigged to go 7 and had been since the beginning of the season. They just wished it was against the lakers.

refs want to get paid for one more game

The NBA absolutely wanted a Game 7 and the end of the game was called as such.

Yeah it's basically a setup to get game 7.  I'm not surprised, I felt this was going to happen before the series started.  It's really hard to take the NBA seriously.  There are bad calls and weird things in any sport but with the NBA it's almost every game.

And my favorite....the guy who claims that only Lebron/Heat supporters would complain about officiating after the game comes up with these gems.

No foul on that final play? NBA certainly makes you wonder.

Stern needs that $$$$$$$. Can't get it without a game 7.

Did you ever stop to think that maybe everyone else isn't wrong about this one or perhaps has a reason for calling you out? This is coming from someone who is pulling for the Spurs in the series (look at the 2nd post in the thread if you don't believe me).

You are desperate to prove yourself right. Meh, a few posts. Big damn deal. It would be 10 times that if the Heat had lost. Suddenly you are pulling for the Spurs huh? Whatever floats your boat man. I'm ready for tomorrow.

So there would literally be 50 people in this thread claiming the series was rigged if the heat lost? And I am the one exaggerating? Like I said, go read the initial posts of the thread, created when the finals started if you don't believe I am rooting for the spurs. Or if you're claiming I'm flip flopping, go find me a quote that says I'm rooting for the heat in the series.

This reminds me of the chapelle show skit where Dave Chapelle was asked what it would take to convince him R. Kelly was guilty of having sex with a minor.

"Okay, I'd have to see a video of him singing "Piss On You," two forms of government ID, a police officer there to verify the whole thing, four or five of my buddies and Neal taking notes, and R. Kelly's grandma to confirm his identity."
