NBA Finals Thread - (2) San Antonio Spurs vs. (1) Miami Heat

Wut? I bet that's how you justify your bandwagon hopping to yourself.  That's the dumbest thing I've heard about being a fan.

I will admit that I am not a Heat fan. I'm a Sacramento Kings/Bobcats fan. I'm a LeBron fan and he is my favorite player. I mainly pull for Lebron so he can shut haters like you and others up and he'll have a chance to do that Thursday. If that makes me and others that pull for him a bandwagon then that's your opinion and you are entitled to it.

Does Lebron deserve criticism? Yes he does. Every player deserves to be criticize. I don't have a problem with that. There is a difference between giving criticism and spewing out hate.

Which had nothing to do with the NBA influencing outcomes though.  He admitted to influencing games to pay his gambling debts or whatever, which proves that NBA refs can have a big influence on games.  Well no poo

I guess it depends on how you interpret these comments that he made about other officials. Is he saying that the officials acted on their own in the best interest of the NBA, or is he saying it came from higher up. Or is he lying altogether?

"Referees A, F and G were officiating a playoff series between Teams 5 and 6 in May of 2002. It was the sixth game of a seven-game series, and a Team 5 victory that night would have ended the series. However, Tim learned from Referee A that Referees A and F wanted to extend the series to seven games. Tim knew referees A and F to be 'company men,' always acting in the interest of the NBA, and that night, it was in the NBA's interest to add another game to the series. Referees A and F heavily favored Team 6. Personal fouls [resulting in obviously injured players] were ignored even when they occurred in full view of the referees. Conversely, the referees called made-up fouls on Team 5 in order to give additional free throw opportunities for Team 6. Their foul-calling also led to the ejection of two Team 5 players. The referees' favoring of Team 6 led to that team's victory that night, and Team 6 came back from behind to win that series."

Are we not hearing outcry now?

Doesn't look that way to me. If anything you can argue the Spurs let off the gas and shot themselves in the foot.

Fans of teams in any sport will always have complaints about officiating. Let's not pretend you guys don't.

I always thought that being a "hater" was degrading someone mainly because of their success. I just gave you plenty of reasons why I dislike the heat.  If you support flopping and whining to the refs while the rest of your team is trying to play defense on the other end of the court then that's your choice. I consider that to be the worst thing in basketball. "but but but he can jump high and hes tall..."

You are insinuating that there would be "an outcry" of complaints about the officiating if the Spurs had won, presumably from Heat supporters. Are you trying to say that Spurs fans/anti-Heat fans aren't full on complaining about last night's officiating? Because if you are, you're not paying attention to this thread and are only hearing/reading what you want to hear/see.

For someone who claims they don't watch NBA basketball, you sure do seem to know a lot about the Heat (who are apparently the only team in NBA history to complain about foul calls or to have floppers).

How can you say that when the majority of players do flop and complain for calls? Some do it more than others but still...they still do it.

But what you just stated about complaining for foul calls is a valid criticism. Rajon Rondo said it best last year when they faced the Heat.

There is a difference when it is the best, most talented player since Jordan flopping. It just looks worse.

The only game I ever thought was totally fixed was a game a while ago. I'm not even sure what year it was but it was Sacramento and the Lakers in a game 6 and Sac I think was up 3-2 and it was the worst officiating job I have ever seen. The Lakers wound up winning in 7.

I don't really believe there is a mandate from the NBA to push for game 7s or to support certain teams. But I do think at times there is human biases for certain teams and players by the refs. I also think NBA refs have bloated egos and get too cute with make up calls and stuff of that sort rather than just reffing the game.

That Sacremento team had the Lakers number and it was embarassingly bad officiating. Doug Christie was pushed in the back on a layup...no call..lol horrible.

You're ridiculously arrogant. Yet you guys play the victim so well. You can tell me with a straight face that all Heat fans would have zero issues or complaints if the Spurs won last night? Yeah lol I don't believe that for a second.

I'm sorry but I'm not going to read every website on the internet to follow what every irrational fan is thinking.

In the championship of any sport, there will always be complaints about something. Especially the officials.

2002. It was the one that Tim Donaghey was referencing that two NBA refs heavily influenced the outcome of the game so that it could get to 7 games. Which is why it is hilarious to hear Laker fans complain about Kobe and co. never getting calls.

I just as livid as I was watching that series...I realize that series and the Iverson generation of players, turned me off to the NBA(which I loved more than the NFL) up until 4 years ago..
