Anyone have backyard chickens?

I am researching bringing around 6 chickens in a coop in my backyard or under my deck. Anyone got chickens?

Get a few hens and a rooster. If you get two roosters and a bunch of hens, call the boys and get some beers because you got a cock fight on yer hands!!!

The neighbors that live behind us (they aren't in our neighborhood) had them. fuging HATED IT.  it's causes rodent issues because they are after the food on the ground.So we dealt with rats and mice. One rat drowned in our pool and a some got in our attack. Exterminator has it under control now. Also raccoons go after them, we found a dead raccoon behind our jacuzzi. They also use to have a rooster and a turkey. The rooster crowed all day and night and the turkey gobbled so loud.  Doesn't make for a relaxing day at the pool or a good nights sleep with the rooster crowing (made it really hard for the little one to sleep and it sometimes woke him up). 

 

After many calls to the police regarding all the poultry and the gun shots, and the fire crackers and the crossbow (all which are illegal where we are), the birds are all gone. for now at least. Still hear the gun shoots and an occasional random explosion. Oh and lets not forget the stupid ass car they have that makes some ridiculously loud noises.

My cousin had some for a while and got rid of them.  Most ideas like this seem like a good idea at the time then just becomes a hassle and too much work.

I have the same problem Cat with the people who live behind us.  Also live in city limits and it's fuging annoying as hell.  Doesn't help that the chickens fuging drive my dogs crazy so they spend hours at the back glass door barking....

Neighbors beside me have hens no rooster. Free, healthy eggs whenever I want. They seem to be under control.
