once attended a concert in Richmond in late 70's........

 

ARS and the Outlaws were the warm up bands for 38 Special.

 

ticket cost between $7-$12.

 

Skynyrd was my fav.........Mr. Breeze

 

Little Feat rocked it as well...........loved these bands because of all the instruments.

Didn't see it mentioned but 38 Special was a very good band. Did a lot for bringing southern rock forward in the 70s and 80s.

And would anyone consider Kid Rock Southern Rock? I know he's from Detroit, but he has a big following in the South.

That's right, Gary Rossington.... the guy "That Smell" was written about when he wrecked his car while under the influence. And no, Ricky Medlocke was not an original member. He joined the band as a drummer in 1971.

 

Nevertheless, the correct answer remains The Allman Brothers.

Are you sure you are not confusing the band 38 Special with the song, "Mr. Saturday Night Special"?  The name 38 Special doesn't seem to promote gun control.
