There's two albums of this poo.

Totally true - two underground albums filled with classics like "Cumstains on the Pillow", "I Like to Eat Lunch Down at the Y", "Little Suzie Shallow Throat"  and the afore mentioned.

Definitely Skynyrd, and I'm so glad you guys made the comments about CCR not being Southern Rock, despite all their sounds about the south lol (still love them though).

Skynyrd is still amazing.  I love the songs most people don't hear often.  Cry for the Bad Man, Searching, I need You, are amazing.  I hate Sweet Home Alabama and Gimme Three Steps, so overplayed and honestly, they aren't very "Skynyrd-ish".   Saturday Night Special, is still very relevant.   I hate the first guys died, the band was truly great, and then they went and ruined the name and turned them into a redneck band, which was NEVER the intention.  In fact I believe Neil Young's "Southern Man" was written in response to one of Skynyrd's songs (Sweet home Alabama if I remember right) and Van Zandt told Young that they aren't about racism, etc.   I always think "what could have been" but at least they never hit the "artist wall".  All of their stuff, IMO, was great.

Allman Brothers are definitely up there though, another amazing band.

Then Marshall Tucker, Blackfoot, Charlie Daniels, etc.

I love the genre for sure.

As I mentioned earlier

Allman and Skynyrd are top tier

Then Marshall Tucker, CDB, ZZ Top are next tier

After that

38 Special

Molly Hatchett

Atlanta Rhythm Section

Blackfoot

Outlaws

Fringe

Elvin Bishop

Black Oak Arkansas

Wet Willie

Little Feat

Grinderswitch

Then there are the spinoff bands like

Greg Allman Band

Dickie Betts Band

Rossington-Collins

Johnny Van Zandt Band

Henry Paul Band

Most of the Southern Rock genre occurred in the 70's and early 80's

Bands after that do not count as Southern Rock for most. At least as classic stuff.

Skynard and Allman brothers are so close. That guitar player put skynsrd there. poo like "gimme back my bullets" still makes me get chills. Duane was certainly amazing as well.

Most people have no idea the slide guitar part during the piano solo/second half of Clapton's hit "Layla" is Duane Allman.

As a matter of fact, some credit for the entire "Layla" guitar riff belongs to Duane Allman borrowing from an Albert King tune, just with a quicker tempo.

Just because a band formed in the South and plays a "version" of rock, does not necessarily classify them as Southern Rock.

R.E.M. anyone?

many other examples in this thread.

Anybodyhome seems to understand because he lived through it, like me. Rest of you young monkeys azzes are going to have to brush up on your Southern Rock
