Scott Fowler writes a Gross article.

Fowler discusses Jordan Gross's legacy with the Panthers.  Gross is getting a little long in the tooth as we all know, and is kinda alluding to the fact that he is nearing the end...as a player anyway.

He has fought for more than a decade now and, in the meantime, grown to love the Carolinas. He wouldn’t mind having some sort of role with the Panthers when his career is over.

Didn't realize he had been such an Iron Man

Gross holds the team record for most starts in franchise history, at 151. He started for the Panthers as a rookie on the 2003 Super Bowl team...In 10 seasons, Gross has missed a total of nine starts – an average of less than one per year. Seven of those came in 2009 when he broke his leg

.

Of course the Players respect him:

“Brandon LaFell gave me a compliment last year,” Gross says. “It was during a TV timeout at New Orleans. We were backed up in our own end zone and the crowd was going nuts. He came up to me in the huddle and said, ‘I love being in the huddle with you because you always make me feel comfortable and confident.’ To me, that’s what a captain should be. Even if you don’t feel like you’ve got it all together, you act like you do. Just provide guidance and solace – the rudder for the team.”

And of course Gross feels that he has some unfinished business. He believes the team has the pieces to get into the postseason.

“We’ve got all the pieces in place,” Gross says. “We’ve drafted well the last few years. Those guys are getting better and better. We drafted well this year. A few old guys are still hanging around to try to plug some holes. There are really just no excuses for us not to do well.”

With his career clock ticking, Gross has a sense of how important this season is to him personally. He would love to bookend his career with Super Bowl appearances, or at least a fourth and final Panthers playoff appearance

A Gross legacy is a good thing.

good read. i love the guy, esp. lately. i get a feeling that this year may be his last hurrah, tho. retirement is just around the corner.

fwiw, i loved what he said about being a captain and fully believe its the case with any leader.....you exude confidence to others, even when you lack it yourself. this is kind of aimed a bit at cam, but it's usful to think about for any leader at work or at home...it's fine that he and others wear their hearts on their sleeve, but that isn't necessarily a good trait in a leader. you have to sometimes betray the emotions you're feeling for the benefit of others. you have to essentially become shallow and even hypocritical and you do it for the good of the team.

it doesn't matter if you think it's all falling apart and there's nothing you can do about it. it doesn't matter if you're discouraged...it's up to you, as a person that others look up to, to help make them feel better about their chances and help make them courageous. the number one job of a leader is to make the people around them do better and do more and a  large part if that is inspiration, and you can't inspire when you act defeated.

People want him gone though, isn't that the sentiment around here?

Nobody wanted him "gone", in a he sucks we don't like him context.   We considered it from a salary cap perspective, before he restructured.  Most of us want to find an eventual replacement because we know he's nearing his end, but the guy is one best players in Panthers history.  I don't think I could imagine JG playing somewhere else.

I just remember the, "He's old," - "He's slow," people coming out of the wood work.  Gross has always been a team player with cap room, no one should have ever worried.

I would love to see Nate Chandler, who is a very good athlete, work under Gross for a year and take over at LT when gross is ready to retire.  Longshot, I know, but he has a great background and Gross would be a great mentor.

That would be insanely beneficial to us if it worked out.
