Ginn gets another chance

La Pantera

i love him as a returner.

we don't need him to be a starter at receiver. his role will to be another deep threat, and a guy you want to get the ball in his hands. ie, reverses, end arounds, etc.

a 3 wr set with him and Gettis on the outside, with smitty in the slot, puts a lot of speed on the field.

Throw in Olsen and a RB, and that could be fun to watch. That 11 alignment still has the threat of the run as well.

One thing in his favor is Cam has a gun as a arm and he is a deep threat receiver....I am not sure he had that in Miami.

If Shula can get something out if a free agent receiver it will be the first in his career. Cam should make it much easier for him, but Chud didn't exactly have much success. Tons of question marks going into camp. Should be interesting at the very least.

I wonder if he simplified the playbook for himself?

13 games played, 2 receptions, 1 yard for the entire 2012 season. Talk about a WR upgrade for the panthers.

To be fair he was used almost exclusively as a returner. Hard to get a lot of catches when you're not on the field. That's a big reason he came here. He'll be given a chance to compete for the #3 spot.

I mean that's the problem. He couldnt get on the field despite the 9ers being pretty thin at WR last season. It's not because he hasnt gotten a chance, he just isn't good. There's no way he wins the #3 WR job over Hixon

Right now i give him just as much a shot as anybody else.Lafell wouldnt have saw the field on the niners and Giants rosters last year either so Ginn and Hixon have opportunities. Its hard for me to criticize others teams receivers sucking when they had talent in front of them and we have only had one good one the past couple years.

Yeah, the 9ers WR corps suck in general (outside of Crabtree and now Boldin). Hell the WR they drafted last year didn't even have a catch. I don't think Ginn is a world beater. But I don't think the #3 battle will be as lopsided as you think. Hixon seems to be the more rounded WR. And may have the edge, but Ginns only real issue seems to be his hands. IF he improves that area, he's a better fit for what we need at receiver. We need a WR to get behind the D and take advantage of Cams arm.

Lafell wouldve gotten a ton of playing time when mario Manningham got hurt. The only reason Randy Moss was playing was because they had nothing better.

I don't want to sugarcoat things. Ginn is a terrible receiver. His drops are a problem but they aren't his only problem. He's a lot like Darius Heyward-Bay (but worse). Lightning fast but doesn't have the football skills necessary to put that speed to good use.

I don't know why you guys are sleeping on Hixon. He was a really good third option of the Giants. He was held back by injuries more than anything else.

That's just not Ginn. Maybe it's Marquise Lee next year

Actually, thats really the only real asset Ginn has. He can blow by DBs. The problem is consistency catching the ball.

And as far as Lee goes...I doubt we'll have a shot at drafting him, unless we make a huge trade.
