Hornets Art Concept

You realize those aren't quotes from MJ right?

MJ's only comment on the subject that I can recall is that they haven't gotten that far yet.

They would be idiots to stray to far away from a brand that 80% of Charlotte wanted to bring back. I expect an updated version of the original with slight tweaks.

What kind of marketing idiot would try to change things completely? 80% of the people associate the name, with the colors, with Hugo, with the original logo. To try to change any of those things drastically would be beyond dumb.

I'm with you, if MJ has made these comments mentioned in this thread then I certainly missed it.

People are taking speculation and just running wild with it.

Any idea where it came from?

I really hope this isn't what they're looking to use.

it appeared on a website called Imgur, said he was not the creator and that it has been *leaked* but in reality it's probably something someone made up in photoshop.

Jordan said that just because they were using the colors to highlight and outline some text didn't mean they would use the same colors. Also said they wouldn't try to assume any of the records from when the Hornets were in Charlotte.

The current slogan Back the Buzz is using bobcat's colors in it, the board behind Jordan did as well.

Bobcats marketing director said the move wasn't made for Jersey sells or merchandise because it'll be hard for them to make the money back for this switch from merchandise sales.

Guelli said there’s a public misconception that the team can make back what it spends on a rebrand through new merchandise sales. He said the profit off licensed apparel is small enough that merchandise sales would not prompt this.

That 80 percent approval rating, for a team still looking to capture Charlotte’s imagination, did.

This was sent out to ticket holders. He's just prepping people for the logo and color changes.

In letter to fans, Jordan says team colors might not be teal and purple, Hornets logo might change. That won't go over well.

No one knows for sure what will happen but, it would be really stupid too go to far away from the original.

I am a season ticket holder so I have received all of the promo material, and I will have a buzz city jacket as I have already re-upped my tickets for the return of Hugo. I have spoken personally with Pete Guieli and also traded emails with him and while he hasn't told me anything that he hasn't said to any of the news outlets, I have a strong indication that we are not going to see wide spread changes.

The buzz city logo is Purple and Carolina Blue... The original Hornets designed by Alexander Julian obviously had both Purple and Carolina Blue in the uniforms. I think that Teal, Purple, and the original Hugo with some updates will play a major role in the design of Hornets 2.0

1 additional comment.. It would be really stupid to not go with Teal for another obvious reason. No one else is using it. Off the top of my head Denver, Memphis, Utah all are using Carolina Blue and Purple is used by the Phoenix, Sacramento, and Toronto... We need to differentiate ourselves and go back to what worked so well before.

Lets see, we could keep what was once the leading merchandise seller in the entire NBA and what is currently the number #1 retro brand in the NBA....

Or

We could let the same people that just designed the latest Cats gear try to redo a classic. I mean the Cats gear was wildly accepted by the marketplace that it finished last in the NBA in merchandise.

Don't fix what's not broken...

This decision should be a cut and dry, easy decision just like the name change was.

    • be kind of hard with us going undefeated the rest of the year. yeah...i said it.
    • I don't think it's necessarily selfless to make that trade. I think it's all in how you plan and if you can objectively view the player. You know you're going to have a new coach and be taking a QB in the draft. Whether or not he wanted to admit it, we were going to be beginning a rebuild with a new offense and new defense. Depending on the coach, Burns may not have even been a good fit for the scheme that coach wanted to run.  So, if you're not 1st, you're going to need to trade up. Burns likely is going to want in the 30m per year range. While an effective pass rusher, he was never a complete DE. He wasn't a JJ, TJ, Bosa, or Garrett. He was more Reddick, and while good, never going to be in that top tier contract caliber.  So the question becomes, knowing that you need a QB to go with a new coach, is it better to have your  23, 24 and 25' 1sts  extra 24 and 25 1sts an extra 23'2nd  and 30m aav of future contract cap space to get a QB and edge rusher  Or your 23, 24 and 25 1sts and a good, but not elite DE on an elite tier contract.  6 picks and available 30m AAV in cap space vs 3 picks and 0 extra cap space to get a QB and a good, not great, DE.  To me that is a simple answer and frankly one that could potentially save my job. You have to have vision and be able to recognize value. Fitts over valued Burns like many fans did. I think ultimately what cost him his job was 3 years of not being able to value players correctly. We saw it twice in the draft in 2 separate years when he panicked and couldn't read the draft. DJ Johnson and Matt Corral picks specifically come to mind.  I don't think it was about being selfless as much as being a strategist. Neither Rhule nor Fitts never struck me as very strategic guys. I think they were more let's throw poo at the wall and see what sticks. Unfortunately for the fans, none of it stuck, but it still all stunk.
    • The issue is the formula is secret, and it incorporates runs... So... Yup, it does. Same with PFF (which isn't quite as secret). But when it doesn't - like on Sunday - it's often to hilarious results. PFF is more reliable I think at matching my 'eye' test.
