Hornets Art Concept

In an interview after the press conference "As I posted above" MJ stated that using the same look of the old Hornets, using the same colors for a bit of cute nostalgia is a mistake. The new uniforms, logo and colors need to work for the future as well. Also said not to expect that based on some lettering and outlines behind him in the press conference.

He basically calls the Hornet colors outdated and fans wanting Cute, and Nostalgic uniforms silly, but not in a mean way. lol

Yeah, that Hornet looks delicate, fragile, and effeminate and the teal and purple needs to be incorporated.  If they want to add the carolina blue as trim, fine, but not a primary.

I most definitely think that purple and teal will be incorporated. It may just be used as an outline or as secondary colors, maybe even one of them being the main color. I just don't think both are going to be primary colors, I think it will be a mix of the current Bobcats colors with the purple and teal added in. I'm just basing these off of MJ's nostalgia comments calling the old colors cute. lol

Yeah that's garbage and as far as mj not using the same colors. That makes no sense. Why would u not wanna bring back the highest selling attire in it's hay day. There's no point to bringing that to charlotte if that's how it's gonna look. But it's his team. He can eff it up all he wants. We know what we get when he's in control

Not feeling any of that in the OP at all, WNBA crap.

Give the logo a tasteful update not a full overhaul, and if they don't atleast incorporate the old colors then this was all a waste. By making the decision to go back to the Hornets they have to go all in. I hope they get this right..

The OP's bug is definitely a chick.  No way should it be associated with an NBA team.

I wouldn't be surprised to see some tweeking done here and there, but if the organization strays too far from the original it will undermine the purpose of bringing the Hornets name back to life.  Significant changes will only help to disassociate the current team from the feelings of nostalgia the organization needs to evoke from the public.

I think it would be smarter to stay close to the original for the first few years.  Once the Hornets are embraced by the city, then more modifications can be made.

Yaaaa no. That's bad.

And yes, I believe it's going to be Purple and Carolina blue (just look at the Back The Buzz shirts they handed out)...hopefully they don't butcher the brand. But can't wait to see what they go with...

Look at the new Winnipeg jets...they just came back but just like the new new Hornets , are a remake of an original franchise and a completely different franchise. (Winnipeg moved to Phoenix became the Coyotes, then Atlanta Trashers moved to Winnipeg and became the Jets)

They didn't copy the original look, they made a completely new one with a slight alteration to the colors and major alternations to the logos/script...I wouldn't be surprised one bit to see MJ and Co. Do the same

Then the I want the Hornets crowd is going to be upset because it isn't the Hornets from before. They want the same jersey's, logo's and mascot.

Some aren't going to be happy unless it's completely the same and it's just not going to be. MJ has pretty much said as much. I think the Winnipeg Jet's situation is pretty close to what's going to happen here.

Altered jersey's, Logo, slight modification to the color scheme. Darker purple and a lighter blue.

I don't really like the new logo that was posted here. The colors though are fine IMO.

To be honest, I'll be SHOCKED if the MJ releases the same logo, same uniforms, same colors, etc that we had before. For one, we don't know what sort of issues the NBA will have in giving Charlotte back certain trademarks. From a legal perspective, there are already concerns about what history of the Hornets, New Orleans would own and what history Charlotte would. You would THINK it would cut off as Charlotte Hornet history and New Orleans history, but apparently it's more complicated then that since Sinn moved the franchise. So, don't tell me that uniforms and logo concerns won't be a roadblock themselves!

Secondly, the old stuff is selling now because it's RETRO and hip! Will people still want the old look two years from now or will it be overdone? Think of how many teams have UPDATED themselves since the Hornets left for New Orleans. Most of the fans who grew up with the Hornets as teenagers, are going into their 30s. Those types of people are buying THROWBACKS to relive their youth but day to day aren't the type of consumers who will be buying merchandise. Expect the team to rebrand to a younger and hipper crowd; than what was hip in 1995.

Also, it has to cost LESS, I'd believe, to match some of the colors in the old Bobcats logo where they can. I have to think of all the things you'd have to change throughout the franchise and arena and saving one color, at the very least has to add up. I do see a bit of orange in this particular design that was posted and I wouldn't be shocked to see it in the new one; whenever it's released.

In the end, I think people will accept the new logo. This is no different than all of the rebranding we see across professional including the Carolina Panthers (much more futuristic now), Philadelphia Eagles (the green is actually much darker than it was before) and the Atlanta Hawks (obvious difference). It just happens.

To honor the past, assuming MJ can get rights to, expect a throwback night from time to time. BUT like I said, I can't see him just throwing up the old jersey and logo for a number of reasons.

You realize those aren't quotes from MJ right?

MJ's only comment on the subject that I can recall is that they haven't gotten that far yet.

They would be idiots to stray to far away from a brand that 80% of Charlotte wanted to bring back. I expect an updated version of the original with slight tweaks.

What kind of marketing idiot would try to change things completely? 80% of the people associate the name, with the colors, with Hugo, with the original logo. To try to change any of those things drastically would be beyond dumb.

    • be kind of hard with us going undefeated the rest of the year. yeah...i said it.
    • I don't think it's necessarily selfless to make that trade. I think it's all in how you plan and if you can objectively view the player. You know you're going to have a new coach and be taking a QB in the draft. Whether or not he wanted to admit it, we were going to be beginning a rebuild with a new offense and new defense. Depending on the coach, Burns may not have even been a good fit for the scheme that coach wanted to run.  So, if you're not 1st, you're going to need to trade up. Burns likely is going to want in the 30m per year range. While an effective pass rusher, he was never a complete DE. He wasn't a JJ, TJ, Bosa, or Garrett. He was more Reddick, and while good, never going to be in that top tier contract caliber.  So the question becomes, knowing that you need a QB to go with a new coach, is it better to have your  23, 24 and 25' 1sts  extra 24 and 25 1sts an extra 23'2nd  and 30m aav of future contract cap space to get a QB and edge rusher  Or your 23, 24 and 25 1sts and a good, but not elite DE on an elite tier contract.  6 picks and available 30m AAV in cap space vs 3 picks and 0 extra cap space to get a QB and a good, not great, DE.  To me that is a simple answer and frankly one that could potentially save my job. You have to have vision and be able to recognize value. Fitts over valued Burns like many fans did. I think ultimately what cost him his job was 3 years of not being able to value players correctly. We saw it twice in the draft in 2 separate years when he panicked and couldn't read the draft. DJ Johnson and Matt Corral picks specifically come to mind.  I don't think it was about being selfless as much as being a strategist. Neither Rhule nor Fitts never struck me as very strategic guys. I think they were more let's throw poo at the wall and see what sticks. Unfortunately for the fans, none of it stuck, but it still all stunk.
    • The issue is the formula is secret, and it incorporates runs... So... Yup, it does. Same with PFF (which isn't quite as secret). But when it doesn't - like on Sunday - it's often to hilarious results. PFF is more reliable I think at matching my 'eye' test.
