no argument but why.

He makes some alright music to bump in the car when you just don't give a poo, but substance? Not there.

I find myself listening to older rap and lesser known artists (know a few). Mainstream all sounds the same.

That is funny that i feel the opposite. I know it is "hipster" to say I listened to him before he hit mainstream. But i dont have cable, i dont listen to radio. I listen to my friends. We pass around music. I heard about Kendrick a couple years ago. Section 80 and Overly dedicated were awesome albums. Section 80 instantly was one of my favorite albums i have ever listened to. Ever. Up there with some of my favorite 2pac and Biggie albums. I am a hip hop purist. I like the old stuff and i am picky but Kendrick hit it for me. Good kid, maad city was exceptional. It was an album like section 80 you listen to from front to back. They are both concept albums.  From what i have heard, it is cool to diss Kendrick now since he made it on the mainstream. that is too bad. His lyrics, the beats have meant the world to me the past couple of years, so it is too bad he is now considered "mainstream" now, because he is everything but that to me.

Music has now become like movies and everything else. It is group think instead of individual. I'm glad i live in the fuging mountain woods away from all the bullshit and i can decide for myself what i like and what i don't. Because i lot of people are sheep. Kendrick is a very talented person from what i have heard. It is a shame the "group think" thinks differently.

I've only heard his new album honestly. I like to hear some ignorant poo here and there.

I think the guy has talent, but going commercial has ruined many artists. This is why so many great ones stay independent. His new stuff is catchy but "where yo grandma stay" and "bitch don't kill my vibe"? He can do better.

Those examples are pure mainstream marketing that is destroying rap today with a generic sound and auto tune.

I listen to all sorts of different poo though, a lot of times I'd just rather jam the fug out to some metal.

I will break this down for you as politely and distinctly as i possibly can.  Because from your first line. "I've only heard his new album honestly" pretty much sums it up. Kendrick is exceptional. He is the best rapper out there right now that i have heard. Lyrically, creatively and artistically. From his album art to his lyrics to the beats. He is literally the closest thing to 2pac alive for me. Not because he is directly political as 2pac was in his interviews. But because he  realistically and metaphorically tells the story of what it is like, the mindset of someone living in a ghetto in America, or somebody struggling with everyday life in poverty.  Every single song in that album relates to what it is like to live in Compton or what it is like to live in a ghetto.  He is at a position mentally, because he wanted to get out and he did, where he can actually realize these things from an outside perspective, much like 2pac.

I listen to good music; everything. I listen to albums as a whole. And i think the problem you had with this is you didn't listen to it as a whole or you didn't understand what he was trying to do. This isn't a diss.

Good Kid M.a.a.d City --- a short film by Kendrick Lamar. I honestly have to question if you listen to the whole album from front to back. It follows a story line. It is ingenious. Bitch don't kill my vibe? One of my favorite songs on the album and sets the mood for the entire album. I could get into grand concepts with you but i won't. Have you listened to the lyrics?  The intro's into songs how the story line progresses from Kendrick taking his mothers car to go visit a girl he has been wanting to bang, to staging a break and entering, to the euphoric highs of getting away with the crime, to enjoying yourself with friends, to wanting to escape that lifestyle, to what that lifestyle takes away from you (i.e. is uncle and cousins to gangs), the way women are treated in that society to being proud you were from compton because it made you the man you are today. I literally felt like i was transported into that world.

With that said about Good kid. Section 80 is in another league. It is in the top 3 hip hop albums of all time for me. One of the greatest albums ever recorded in the history of mankind and it was a fuging mixtape. I encourage you to listen to it. I don't say things like this lightly. I put it up there with Led Zeppelin, James Brown, Waylon Jennings, Pantera, type of albums. They are just uniquely different and influential.

I feel like your statement was pretty much just a hipster thing to say. His albums have been incredibly, consciously crafted, memorable albums. I don't get the hate at all. I can listen to all of his albums from beggining to end and enjoy every second of them.

Not the "hipster" term lol, so many people today can be categorized as such with the state of music today.

I'll listen to his first album, but I don't see the issue with judging his most recent work which is also his introduction to the mainstream. He could just keep raking in the cash and stay commercial, he won't be the first.

He has to seperate himself from the other artists out there with simple catchy hooks, which is most of the industry.

As for Tupac, I am not a fan of mentioning him in the same sentence as any hip hop artist today. That's a whole different universe there and I frankly don't think there will ever be another even close to him. That era is over.

Look at 2pacs music videos if that is what you are judging Kendrick off of.

Listen to the albums from first to last track and then judge him.

Put it this way. He had eminem and lady gaga recorded on songs for good kid. He didn't put them on his album.  "it didn't flow"

They are concept albums. He puts the time and work in, he makes amazing ALBUMS not just singles and if you don't like it that's obviously your perogative, but to say he is not apart of the revival of hip hop is ignorant.

That era may be over, and you may not like mentioning people in the same sentence as him and i get that, but there are few artists in any genre period that take me to another place when i listen to their music, Kendrick is one of them, as well as 2pac. That is what i base my music on.

I hope you enjoy section 80.

I understand what you're saying, we all have favorite artists who transcend music for us.

Gaga? Wow. Eminem would have worked 10 years ago. Love his old stuff though, I don't care.

Damn shame what happened to the art of music videos. I miss the 90's.

Anyways, thanks for the heads up.

Also, I disagree that Section 80 is a better album. GKMC feels more complete and flows better. Section 80 has less impact on me personally, just doesn't feel as grand and moving.

Good Kid is more polished. Section 80 is a raw mixtape. I know what you are saying, but i prefer section 80.  They are both fantastic but section 80 hit me harder.
