I put Cam at 7th or 8th overall.

Aaron Rodgers

Tom Brady

Peyton Manning

Drew Brees

Eli Manning

Matt Ryan

Cam Newton / Joe Flacco

Big Ben can't stay healthy, Phillip Rivers has been a disaster the last two years, Tony Romo could be on the list near Cam or right below him.  I want to see RG3 stay healthy before he makes this list, while Luck needs to cut down on the turnovers. I think Wilson might already belong on here, but I'd like to see him have a larger part of the offense.

My list doesn't mean anything though, Cam has one thing he can laugh about though. He was ranked higher then Bailey in the top 100.

Is there a criteria or is this just a homer post?  For instance, are we talking accuracy, wins, production, arm strength, field vision, pocket presence stuff like that or are we just a would you take this guy over Cam thing?

the rapist won two super bowls, I'd put him ahead of cam. I would also put rivers near or above cam as well, although his last two years have been a disappointment, he is still a great QB. like it or not, Romo is a hell of a QB and has just as many super bowls as cam, I'd say he's an acceptable guy above cam.

Some of those guys might be better "pure" QB's. But Cam brings a dimension to his game that makes him more valuable than someone like Rivers. Cam can change a game with his legs and I'd argue he also has the strongest arm in the NFL. Cam>RGIII, Vick, and CK.

I always view these sort of things as a "would you take this guy over Cam".  Football is such a team sport and it's so nearly impossible to compare what a QB would do with a different team / situation that actually ranking them based on a metric is hard without disclaimers all over it.  That "yeah but what would he do if he was here" question just ruins it.

If I'm looking at it as who would I take for one season only and not taking into account potential or age I'd put him about 7th or 8th.  If I'm taking into account rate of growth and where I think they'll end up as well as age?  I wouldn't replace him with anyone, but I'm a gambler at heart.

Until those things result in wins, they are nice to talk about.

They're not entirely useless to talk about though.  Wins are an awful metric for how good a QB is b/c of the impact the rest of the team can have on it.  They're a huge part of it, sure, but who's to say if we pick up Cam and swap him with one of the better QBs in the NFL last year their stats don't magically looks much, much, more similar?  To me wins is a Panthers metric, not a Cam metric, unless we do some silliness like trying to account for games where we were winning then there was a defensive meltdown...and similarly account for games with an utter offensive failure.  I dunno - the whole thing gets murky once you take a highly group-based stat like wins and apply it to one player.

I don't think Cam is the best QB in the league and I'd be the last person to say he doesn't have a ton of improvement left to reach his potential as a player (or even that he's been the best player on our team the last two seasons), but I also don't think he's where he'd be ranked if the primary metric for his success is team wins either.

QB's always get more credit for wins and more blame for losses than they honestly should.....just the way it is.

I do look at many games that the defense let them down.  But even in many of those games, the offense still had the ball at the end with a chance....and could not make that last drive.

Again, we did not come through in many areas (at many diff times) last season.  Some of that is not on Cam....but some of it is.
