I agree.  But, Kalil's comments in the article were interesting.

 

I agree. Kalil's comments make me wonder has the attitude of the locker room changed any. I don't think that the captain should be voted on based on seniority, and that's how it seems like it is based in the panthers locker room which worries me. Things need to change and Cam needs to be a captain.

I would like to see him retire the towel on the head thing and be able to control his emotions at post-game press conferences before is made team captain. I love the way he plays, but he has not acted like a team captain on the sidelines yet (when things are not going well).

I would think that "earning" the C would happen without publicly stating a desire for such.

I think he should make the offense run like a top and the C will take care of itself.

Publicly stated lol, it's not like he held a press conference soley to announce he wanted to be a captain.

He was asked a question by a reporter and he answered it respectfully and honestly.

Not to me.

Why? Primarily because if you read Kalil's comments in the article, you'll see he's actually quite right.

If there are only two offensive captain spots, then it's tough not to give those spots to Gross and Smitty. Honestly, even Kalil is more established as a leader on this team than Newton. Now, that may change in time, but it's the reality of this moment.

To be clear though, recognizing that there are veterans who are more firmly established as leaders right now does not say anything bad about Newton.

I don't think Newton has any chance of supplanting Gross or Smith unless either of them are ready to pass on the reins, and if he doesn't do so then that's all I would attribute it to.

That said, I would hope that Newton is doing everything he can to establish himself as someone worthy of taking those reins when the time comes, and as far as I can tell he has done that. In my mind he has surpassed even established veterans like Kalil as a leader. 

He's next in line, it's just a matter of time.

I'm sorry but every time I scroll through the huddle and glance at the thread title, I thought it read "Cam wants the "D" per Person".  I'm like WTF and I re-read it again much more slowly. Am I the only person that thought that for a second?

I remember alot of people bitching at the start of the season as to why cam wasn't captain. Hypocrites at their finest.
