Cam wants the "C" per Person

top dawg

I think it is great that he "wants" it. But, coming out publically and saying that he wants to be Captain is a little odd to me. Can be construed as lobbying for it.

No need for him to talk about it.

Well he was asked by a reporter.

Honestly it's a question I'd rather wasn't even asked.  I wouldn't expect him to say he doesn't want it or to dodge the question, that would bring its own brand of responses that would probably be worse.  I think qualifying it with that he wants to be a captain but he wants to earn the respect to get it is about the best way he could respond....even though there's a better than average chance the comment will be cut up, taken out context, and somehow used to "prove" he's a bad teammate by someone with a column, radio show, or their face on TV.

this exactly^^^^

Any answer that Cam gave could easily be cosntrued and taken negatively.

But, when it was asked....he had to answer.  And, I agree that he answered it the best way that he could.

Didn't Cam say all this during the recent press conference video, I expect most of us watched, read about (with all due respect to the poster and Person)?

Thanks, FM, point taken. I do want to mention the fact that many Huddlers don't even watch press conference videos (which are sometimes "all over the place". Plus, there is something to be said about reading focused information in print, and being entertained by the surrounding analysis and commentary.

There are no less than 7 threads on the front page about Newton. Luke will be more important to determining our success this season than Newton. Defense will be more important than offense.

Who cares what Cam and the offense is doing. They won't determine wins and loses next year.

I don't understand how our front office can spend the entire off-season and resources in defense...retain our defensive Head Coach...lose our offensive coordinator...make no upgrades to Cam's weapons on the Outside...

And media and fans alike spend countless hours on what Cam Newton is doing.

Who cares. Cam and Shula should be focused on how to stay out of the way of our talented defense.

Did the thought ever occur to you, that the Front Office, felt that the Defense was the more dire need (unless this is snark or frustration)?

Yes, the offense could certainly use some additions (no argument there). However,  they're a more proven commodity the past two years than the defense has been. Plus, Gettlemen drafted the BPA within reason/his needs. If he would have believed in a WR, I'm sure he would have chosen one.

The Panther defense, hasn't shown that it's TRULY ready for prime time the past two seasons (just check their 4th Qtr, lack of Big Play/TO performance); though we all hope it will be.

I am not arguing about if what we did was right. Maybe it was right...maybe not...

But instead of threads like is Cam going to be our offensively captain...there should be threads like who is going to be our defensively captain.

The focus of this board, and the panther media should be on our defense. not newton. he is not the most important player on this team. i would argue luke is at this point.

To say that our MLB will be more important to our wins than our QB is kinda silly.  I've said over and over that Cam alone isn't going to be responsible for our winning or losing games very often and that I don't like the idea of putting team wins on one person...but I wouldn't go so far as to say the QB, if all players are viewed as pieces of a whole, isn't the most important piece there.  For what it's worth saying "Defense is more important than Offense" is not the same as saying "Luke is more important than Cam".  But still if our offense is awful then we will probably lose.  Similarly if our defense is awful we will probably lose.  This team needs both units to perform to meet expectations.

Media and fans spend countless hours on what Cam is doing because the QB runs the offense on the field and, while you can work around a bad QB in some cases, good QB play elevates the play of everyone around them.  We pay attention to what he's doing because it's important.  The media pays attention to it because, like it or not, he's the most recognizable national face on our team (and it's important).

For myself? I choose to want both sides of our team to perform well...not to champion one unit over the other and rail on how unimportant one entire half of the team is.  Why not want to see our #1 overall former OROY putting up gaudy numbers along with the DROY on the other side of the ball?
