Rosenthal's write-up on Cam Newton

I never mentioned the Jets you dumb 'tard, you're too stupid to even keep your conversations straight, so what the hell do you know about football?

I was commenting on the individual that compared luck to sanchez in a round about way by saying the jets team that made two straight afc championship games was a terrible team. I didn't think he should be able to get away with such off the cuff remarks. thanks for your kind thoughts and helpful guidance. ill try to do better.

I just never understood the whole "QB comeback" wins" thing and i why the fug its so important. If a werent for a Qb playing like poo the first 3 quarters they would never have to worry bout coming back and winning a game. Believer it or not Aaron Rodgers doesnt have a lot of comeback wins and he is considered the best Qb in the NFL. You know why? Because he knows how to put a team away from the very beginning of a game to the end and he does it consistently. That what its all about to me and thats how i want Cam to be. I dont understand why the so called experts dont see the flaws in that whole concept.

you cant always beat a team whistle to whistle, in fact its rare.its a game of changing tides, and with the parity in the nfl it usually comes down to a play or two. as close as nfl games have become, you cant see the importance of having a qb that has comeback, crunch time ability? really? and I think we all know what you want cam to be.

I checked the number and if my math is correct, Luck was sacked around 6.5% and in Cam's rookie year he was sacked bout 6.7%. That's not totally accurate because I used attempts and not the actual number of dropbacks. But either way, there really isn't much difference. Luck did attempt a lot more than Cam, so it really evens out.

qb's will always be measured by wins, pressure and playoff success.  Whether totally fair or not, just how it is.  Until we as a team get there, writer's will give the nod to the guys that lead their teams to the playoffs and more.

Yeah, but what are they (the press) gonna say when many of those other young QB's teams don't make the playoffs, and/or have good years??? What will their ranking and perception be then? Playoff teams are usually in and out on a year to year basis (50%), unless you're an established team with a really good coach/players, and sometimes even they miss the playoffs. Let's see what happens in 2013, and the medias reaction??

I think that's part of the problem with many Panthers fans criticism of the press: Much of it is very premature, on both Cam and the other young QB's (some of them who haven't even completed a full season yet, mind you one). All of those guys have clear weaknesses or question marks which were conveniently ignored by them (while Cam's alleged one's were loudly bandied about).

So all of a sudden, RG3, Luck, and even Kaepernick will be demoted (in the Press eyes), if when they and/or their team have bad years (which is quite possible)??? I think this is the question many Panther fans have, though obviously none of us can do any thing about that. It is, what it is, as they say. You just gotta avoid or dismiss it, really.

I guess the good things Panther fans have to realize/recognize: Cam is already ranked so high on various list, with such a poor team, with what many of his, and Panther fans perceive as unfair criticism or dislike of him...I guess he must be really good then!? Lol

I don't kno, I still believe people will just say what they want either way. If luck finished 6-10 I still believe he would have been #1. They would just say he was on a bad team, what did you expect. Like others have said, they put him at #1 before he played a single snap in the NFL. I say this because he said it was based on projection, not necessarily this seasons play.

I can't take Rosenthal seriously anyway. And it's not just his ranking order; cause he's a journalist and probably not a football guy, or even because I disagree with him.

When he says, that he 'wasn't impressed with Cam's rookie or second season, vs RG3, Luck', and Kaepernick's half a season, that's when I knew this guy was clueless. I had to stop right there.

When you watch the Panthers play, it's clear that Newton sticks out like a sore thumb. You can't miss him (and not just because he stands tall, proud and resolute in the pocket at 6'6", patiently and purposefully looking down field, unlike the other guys). All the offense revolves around him; with every great play, run, read, throw and mistake/s. Cam is always the focus, and routinely the best result.

When you watch a Washington, Seattle or San Francisco game on the other hand; you don't get that feeling most times. You feel the run game, the offensive Line, or even the play calling, is the biggest strength/has the biggest impact on the game. RG3, Kaep, and Wilson just added to what was already there, while Cam was the proverbial 'Straw That Stirs The Drink'! Big Difference!! And one of the main reasons, why I can't take his statement seriously.

Unfortunately, I don't think most of these various writers and reporters, actually followed any of these players seasons. And now they're attempting to write about them retrospectively via selected, accelerated video footage, if that. SMH

Luck had a built in excuse before the season even started. If he had a poor season, everyone else would have got the blame but him. His season would not have been a failure in any kind of way. The media would have made sure of it. WIn win

no, u don't want your qb to b great in crunch time, do u? you should b real happy with cam, he definitely doesn't have comeback abilty, and u didn't address the jets team you referred to as terrible. terrible teams don't make conference title games, did u think no one on here would know they had the # 2 defense, and the leagues best runnin game when they made it to those title games, you will not get statements like that past me. comments?

You're that idiot blogger Scott Kacsmar aren't you?

Pretty fair assessment. From what I know of him, Rosenthal's a decent writer.

My primary complaint with Newton has been a lack of consistency. Rosenthal sees that too.

Said long ago that Newton would be a Brett Favre like 'feast or famine' quarterback. Here's hoping for more feast than famine.

This has been my thought as well.

I think that he is closer to Elway than many here like to think.
