Rosenthal's write-up on Cam Newton

Mage

too many people here seem to think this. did you even watch him play? or are you just comparing his rookie stats to cam's?

i saw several of his games and some of the throws he makes are flat out amazing. luck will be very good for a long time, bank on it. he definitely isn't overrated. remember, the colts went 2-14 the year before. he threw the ball 200+ more times than cam did his rookie year, and cam threw quite often. of course he's going to throw picks, so did cam, and so did peyton manning. that's what happens when rookies are asked to go out there and absolutely SLING the ball around.

you're a very wise and thoughtful young man. peyton threw 28 picks as a rookie, the all time record. luck threw 18, and im sure he threw at least 100 more passes than peyton, and took a lot more punishment. I believe the colts offensive line was ranked 31st overall. luck took a real beating game after game. he's tougher than woodpecker lips.

don't forget luck had seven 4th quarter comebacks in his rookie season, gabbert wont have seven comebacks in his career. also the terrible jets team you refer to had the second ranked defense, and the number 1 rushing attack, averaging 175 yds. a game.

Yet that same team struggled for years before Sanchez came in.

As for Luck, one thing I do praise him on is his leadership, which helps account for 4th quarter comebacks. Remember, Jake Delhomme was one of the best QB's in the league when it came to leading his team to a 4th quarter comeback. However, Luck would be considered a big bust if his career turns out anything like Jake's.

Okay, Cam has major come back ability. We lost a lot of games because Cam lead a 4th quarter drive for a score and the D didn't hold it. We lost 7 of our 9 losses by 6 or less.

And please stop crowning Luck. Yes! He led comebacks, his D held the lead, Cam's did not. First Falcon's game = perfect example.

Yes! He made the playoffs with a 2-14 team, but he did have a lot easier road than Cam his rookie year. Proof of that:

In the 11 wins the Colts had, the opposing team scored on avg. 15.8 points a game. Luck only had to score 16 points on avg. a game.

In Cam's rookie year, our WORST 11 GAMES, we avg. 20 points a game. That don't include our scores of 30+ & 40+.

Luck had SMOOTHER ROAD

just for the record, u misquoted the numbers. u stated colts opponents scored an average of 15.8 points in the colts 11 wins, the accurate number is 18.3, also, the colts o-line was ranked 31st. luck took 41 sacks, avoided at least twice that many because of great pocket presence, and was hit about every time he threw the ball. that aint no smooth road man.

Its gotta be some kind of sad, pathetic life to sign up on another team's board with that teams QB as your username for the sole purpose of criticizing that QB.

Pitiful.

Unless you are yet another incarnation of Grits, which would be even MORE sad, pathetic, and pitiful.

I'll recheck it later, can't right now. But even if it is 18.3 the Panthers scored 20 ppg on their worst days. Like I said, that doesn't include the games we scored 30+ or 40+.

Also, Cam didn't exactly have a pro bowl line either. He was sacked 35 times that year and 36 last year. I'm pretty sure that's not because of lack of mobility. He can escape pressure and make the pass or run.

I'm not even saying Cam is better than Luck, not going there. I just believe Cam could have done the same as Luck.

Also, if I'm correct, Luck dropped back close to 100 more times. Ill have to check that, but if so, it could explain the higher sack total.

And just to add.

Nfc south (when cam was a rookie)

Saints 13-3

Falcons 10-6

Panthers 6-10

Bucs can't remember, but was low

Afc south (lucks rookie year)

Texans 12-4

Colts 11-5

Titans 6-10

Jags 2-14

Luck has easier division. ......and yes, I'm that bored

no, u don't want your qb to b great in crunch time, do u? you should b real happy with cam, he definitely doesn't have comeback abilty, and u didn't address the jets team you referred to as terrible. terrible teams don't make conference title games, did u think no one on here would know they had the # 2 defense, and the leagues best runnin game when they made it to those title games, you will not get statements like that past me. comments?

I never mentioned the Jets you dumb 'tard, you're too stupid to even keep your conversations straight, so what the hell do you know about football?

I was calling the man's hand on referring to the jets team that made two consecutive afc championship games as terrible. he was making an off the cuff comment that was a complete falsehood. to your other comment I doubt the colts are losing any sleep worrying about luck being another delhomme.

The reason they're not losing any sleep is because the media has built Luck up to some godly being that he isn't, and they believe it.

actually my life is really good. my son signed up with that user name and I just jumped on board. I left you guys a really mushy post on the cam top 100 post just a bit ago, if you get a chance to read. I really do enjoy panther nation's passion even if I don't often agree with your take on things. all my best to you and yours!
