Need to fence my backyard

When I worked for Lowe's I did the exterior remodel/renovate/project estimates and I can tell you it's well worth the time. I retired from Lowe's and it was the last job I had with the company and it was probably the best. Here's what you get:

  • Estimate in writing of whichever fence design/material you want (chain link, wood, composite, iron, aluminum or vinyl)
  • The installers are licensed contractors, insured and have background checks
  • The price you get is turn-key and includes labor, delivery, materials- the whole deal
  • The fence will be placed usually within 24" of the property line on your side.
  • Any permits required are paid for by you, but included in the price and pulled by the installer.
  • 2-year labor warranty and the material warranty on the product. So if the fence falls over in 6 months because they forgot to concrete a post... call 'em, they'll be back

Thank you sir.  I will go to Lowe's tomorrow.  I emailed 5 companies and only 1 company got back.  They asked me for a land survey instead of coming out lol.

Honestly once we got started on my brothers it wasnt that hard. Id be a proponent of friends/family. Its good bonding time. We did his in two days and that included digging up 20 posts and moving them and connecting to new fencing

There are a couple aluminum fence ideas you should be aware of going in. Nothing bad, but it does effect price. Most alum fences offer 2 products styles that look almost identical, but in reality they have a slight difference. There are different sizes to the posts and pickets. For example, most residential alum fences have a post that is 1 1/4", but there are some with a thicker post, like 1 1/2". Same with the pickets, they may range from 5/8" to 3/4". Granted, 1/8 or 1/4" doesn't sound like much, but with the picket spacing less than 4" apart, it's a fairly substantial strength factor and price point.

If you're dealing with an HOA, please make sure everything is good with them, because Lowe's does not take any responsibility for falling within the guidelines of the HOA- that's your gig. Any way, good luck and let me know how the estimate and the Lowe's dude was, I'm curious. I was one of the first in-home installation estimators (Lowe's calls them Exterior Project Specialists) in this part of the country and was very successful because I knew the products I sold and I trusted our installers, most of whom I'd worked with for several years.

Just got an estimate from Legacy fencing.  They estimated it at $5,200 for 310 feet of fencing before labor.  Seems little bit too high and I question the 310 feet number.  I estimated my yard to be around 240 feet.
