Just a little background on the hiring...

-The deal is a three year deal just under 6 million dollars with the third year being a team option

- Was as assistant for Jeff Van Gundy in Houston, Stan Van Gundy in Orlando, Mike Brown/Mike D'Antoni in Los Angeles.

- Worked with Patrick Ewing in Orlando.

The legend himself Bernie Bickerstaff was a Lakers assistant and D'Antoni decided not to keep him (huge mistake IMO).  I wonder if he would be interested in being an assistant for his old team.

I wasn't thrilled with the Dunlap hiring, but I kinda thought firing after one year was a little lame, but hiring a guy with actual NBA experience seems like a good decision.

Ridiculously close relationship with Dwight Howard. I know we're not in on him as a free agent, but if it's money, anonymity, and a coach that gets him then he would have it here. Just a thought.

I would be lying if I said the thought didn't cross my mind but I just can't see us in that race.

But just for giggles and daydreaming imagine a defense with Clifford at coach, Kemba, Oladipo, MKG, Biz, and Howard.

Sure we may not ever score more than 80 points but neither would our opponents. Lol

I was actually thinking the same thing...

If it comes down to money and comfort, he'll end up in Charlotte. If it's all about winning, he'll be in Houston or Dallas.

Wow!  Been gone most of the day and I was playing ball when the news broke and came back to turn the game on and hear we made the hire.

Not sure if I like it, but I can't say too much negative about it as I'm not overly familiar with him.  BUT, players that have played for JVG respect him despite him not having any notable playing experience on his resume, and he LOVES the hire.  The other reason I'm extremely optimistic about the hire is that he has "paid his dues" in the pro ranks, as JVG mentioned during the game.  That makes a HUGE difference with players.  We aren't talking about a guy like Dunlap or Lawrence Frank...  He's been around for years, and usually respect comes with that.  He'll have little stories and anecdotes about former players to use as teaching skills and that builds trust with players...

So for those reasons, I'm very excited about this hire.  It's definitely a completely different feel than I had for the Dunlap hire - I hated that one immediately and saw no good that could come of it, but tried to give it a chance.

As much as I'd like to think of how awesome that would be when omitting the personality factor with Howard, I can't...  Dude is a train wreck, and I'd prefer not to blow all of our cap room on a guy that isn't sure he's a franchise player himself and defers both blame and responsibility on others constantly.
