Soccer Summer Transfer Thread...

Liverpool managers believes Suarez is worth £100m. They must be smoking some good poo at Anfield.

I don't really remember, but I'm pretty sure I read Bale has fewer goals, fewer assists, more minutes per goal, fewer key passes, and fewer chances created than Suarez. So, yea. He's totally worth 100% more.

Would love this.  Kaka has been a huge disappointment since stepping foot in the Bernabeu.  Anything that gets Kaka out, and gives Isco, Illara, Jese, and Cheryshev more playing time is fine with me!!

It shows how ridiculous that the assumption that Bale is worth 100% more than Suarez is.

Switch Suarez and Bale last season and Tottenham make UCL and Liverpool finish 7th or lower.

I don't think you seen many Spurs game last season. Bale was the reason Spurs finished 5th. Spurs came back in almost every game to win it thanks to Bale goal or assist. Bale is way better than Suarez. You just being bias.

I saw many big games of theirs. I saw a game where he scored early and multiple games when he scored at or near the 90 minute mark when his team was already up. I also saw him be an absolute non factor late in the season vs. Liverpool.

I also saw Suarez score critical goals including a near aggregate comeback v. Zenit and scoring the equalizer at 90+6 against Chelsea. Granted he bit a man earlier.

I see your Bale and raise you almost literally every statistical category in football with Suarez.

I, as a United fan, wanted Bale, however I do not understand his valuation like most of you have already said.  Right now he is rated at £70m+, arguably around £85m seeing as Contrao is likely worth between £10m and £15m.  I think he is very good, with the potential to be great, but is he on par with Ronaldo when he was sold to RM....no.  Bale scored 21 BPL goals this year, which is good, its the only season in which he has scored in double digits.  CR7 had 3 seasons in the BPL in which he scored 17 or more goals, one of which he had 31 goals in 31 starts which is insane for the BPL.  Keep in mind that those 3 seasons CR7 also likely had a bit of his goal scoring potential taken away given that Rooney scored 12 or more goals all 3 years.

I think Bale will be very good, but his price is just way too high.  I think a £50m to £60m valuation would be much more accurate, but hey, we call cant have infintely deep pockets like Real Madrid does.

Edit: They were also right around the same age when they will be sold/were sold.

It's a shame Forlan denied the move to Toronto FC.

The MLS is trying really hard, but it's going to be hard for them to garner popularity without big name players.

Yeh, I like seeing these global names playing in the MLS, even if they are in the twilight of their careers.  I am still holding out hope that Charlotte gets one of the 3 or 4 expansion teams that the MLS has planned before 2016(i think it was 2016 but I could be wrong).  North Carolina has one of the highest rates of youth soccer in the country, it is amazing to me that we don't have an MLS team yet.

I am not foolish enough to believe that that the MLS will ever be on par with the BPL, La Liga, Bundesliga, or Seria A, but I think it is possible to potentially get to the level of Ligue 1 or Russian Premier League.  Need to keep drawing in those stars.  All we need is one big name player in his prime to come to the MLS and for that first domino to fall before we start seeing more people coming over here.

On a side note and somewhat contradictory to what I just wrote, the MLS needs to add rules requiring a certain amount of "homegrown" players on the roster much like there is in England.  I read an article a little ways back stating that the percentage of American players in the MLS has declined the last 3 years or something like that.  The MLS was originally created to be a boost to the US National team, we need to make sure it stays that way.  Bc I don't know about you guys, but I would really love to see us win a World Cup in my lifetime.

Sorry for the really long post, but I can talk about soccer all day.

A player's value is whatever another team is willing to pay to acquire him - it's really that simple. If RM wants to pay a ridiculous amount of money for him, then Bale will be sold for a ridiculous amount. I'm good with keeping him, so if they decide not pay what Levy is asking, works for me. If they do pay it, works for me. I wish he'd stay, as I think he'd be a piece we could truly build around, but if he wants to go, and we get a shitload of money for him - it's all good.

And there's nothing wrong with long posts in this thread. I'd like to think Soccer fans are more patient readers and love to hear the opinions of all fans. Speak as much as you want bud!

This is a common belief, and probably fairly accurate.  What most people mean by "value" is more likely what is a "fair return" or something like that.  Just because some person with millions of dollars is willing to pay $100,000 for a 1998 Ford Focus does not mean that is its value.

The second Real Madrid buy Gareth Bale, his "value" will instantly be cut in half.  If you were to try to turn around and sell him, he'd be worth, at most, £65m. I think that is a much more realistic figure in regards to his value.

But, like you said, he will be sold for whatever a club is willing to pay for him.  There is no denying that.
