Following the Devil down to Georgia

Do you have kids?

No, I don't, but if you do, you need to look at either Marietta or Roswell, period to get out of the crime areas, (though there aren't any of those, there are some that are worse)...

Both are easily accessible to other parts of the city, (not sure where your job is) and are reasonably safe in comparison. When I was in Marietta, I used to walk to work 1/5 miles) for the workout and walk back home at 2:00 am. I know I'm a big guy, but that's pretty late to be walking in a metropolis like the Atlanta area. Never a hint of a problem. Don't get too far north, you get into Kenasaw, (sp), where it is a law that every household own a firearm, it makes it safe, but then again...

Wish you luck...

I was asking dham. I live down in Atlanta now. I'd suggest parts of Gwinnett County as well if you're looking to live outside the perimeter. I'm not a fan of the area north of the perimeter on 75 (so yeah, like you said, I'd avoid Kennesaw, etc).

It all depends on what you're looking for. I'm trying to refrain from making suggestions because I have no idea what dham considers important.

Sorry, you were right behind me, so I assumed, stupid thing to do. No doubt, Grinnett has been happening for years, the fastest growing county in the country. But I love the North / Northwest of Atlanta the best, I don't know why? Gwinett is likely more expensive than Mariettan, etc., but is a cool place to be these days, no doubt...

Kids are college-age so they don't really factor in too much. We'll still probably look at a 4 or 5 bedroom so we can have family and company over

Sounds like you're a Sandy Springs, Dunwoody kind of guy. Now there's some comfort. A friend of mine had parents that had a house in Dunwoddy on the river about a mile from Burt Reynolds place. It was about $500,000. Burt's place literally had no right angles in the structure on the outside something that was designed that way. One of the most beautiful horse stables to be seen as well.

They were pretty cool people, as soon as I would arrive, they'd say, "where the hell you been, I've been waiting on you forever, I couldn't drink till you got here"...
