Seriously? Who cares. Is this going to make him any less of a competitor?

If it isn't a thread about the guys weight, it's something even more ridiculous.

If there's any "pussification" going on, it's with the mouth breathers on this board.

after 17 years of being in the ground they come out like this...

and then they come out by the thousands....and i mean thousands as in millions....and do this EVERYWHERE

Cicada%2Bhatching.jpg

and then they go up in the trees and make all that sound trying to attract mates so they can do this...

and then the females lay a bunch of eggs in the ground and those stay there for another 17 years.

i took my daughter on a walk to the back side of our property and i heard some cracking and a tall spindly tree that was totally loaded with them fell over and broke. most of the time we were walking we were having to dodge cicadas flying around and bumping into us.

these things aren't small, either. about an inch to an inch and a half.

tons of fun.

yep.

So, are they a food source for some animal or bird. Or is their only reason for being, to be really really irritating?

So they lay dormant for 17 years. And when their biological clock goes off, they come out and party like a mfer. Then lay dormant for another 17 years?

That must be one hell of a party if it takes 17 years to recuperate.

birds, rodents and other small mammals, lizards, snakes, fish....and some people. apparently the best time to get them is when they just come out of the shell and look all white. people grill them.

oh yeah, apparently there's some special wasp that feeds on them as well, but i haven't seen them.

but it's been going on for a couple weeks now. probably one more to go. yay.

Zod makes a blanket statement, then claims it's just a joke and calls everyone butt hurt lol.

I love the huddle.

As far as annoying pests are concerned I'll take a cicada swarm every 17 years over the droves of stinkbugs that invade my house every year.  Cicadas actually come out every year from what I notice the'yre just a particularly crowded bunch this year.

yeah, we had those stinkbugs this year as well.

but there are 13 year cicadas and 17 year ones. this is the 17 year one.

there are some every year, but for the most part they stick to those cycles. this is the east coast brood.
