So, they're challenging Charlotte-Panther deliberations...And?

Some ex-reporters are challenging the deliberations. So what the fug does that mean?

Via the Charlotte observer:

The City contends the meeting was legal under an exemption in North Carolina’s open meetings statute to discuss “economic development”.

But the ex-reporters, including Mike Cozza, Bruce Bowers, Wayne Powers and Ken Coontz say the discussion of significant taxes and expenditures strayed far from the Panthers and the stadium improvements.

“The city did not comply with the law, it does not comply with the law and it has no intention of complying with the law,” attorney Paul Whitfield told the court. “I’m not talking about the Panthers. Who cares? Most people want the Panthers to stay here.”

Does it derail anything if the case is deemed viable?  Any attorneys in the house?

I didn't exactly read that, but I would assume lawyers want to make a little money..  Just a little though.  They are reasonable, most of the time.

The city would have to pay a fine of 1.something million if the judge rules in favor of the plaintiffs.  That's what the news last night said anyway.

Are they?

There's a reason why they are the brunt of any joke that needs "asshole" to mentioned in the context. Lawyers, in general imo, do not take actions to make things better. They take action because rules tell them they can profit if they do. There are some out there fighting for justice, dont get me wrong. The majority Ive met and seen at work dont give two shits about justice and fighting to make this world a better place to live. They just want to carve out a chunk of wealth with their own claws.

I personally am not divorced, but holy poo, I have heard lots of friends' stories about how they manipulate people to destroy their families and just give up on what may have worked out. I personally think that they are damn near single handedly responsible for ruining this country's family values. . . and well thats causing a fug load of other problems.

I appreciate the words that I failed to feel inclined to describe...  Yes, I agree..

If the city is fined, who is getting awarded this money if they win? If the city officlas wronged anyone by doing this, then they wronged us voters/"the people".. not a couple of attorneys trying to fill their pockets. Shouldn't these 4 guys be fighting for "the people" and not themselves? FUG do I hate politics pushing in on my sports

This lawsuit is going nowhere, but these lawyers will get paid either way and that's all that really matters to them.

Most of the folks on the city council are practicing lawyers, the city council is a part-time job, and they have a lawyer on the council just to be extra sure they are in compliance, so you don't think it ever would have occurred to any of them that meeting in private with the Panthers was illegal, if it was illegal? LOL
