Panthers’ Kuechly says new linemen make his job easier

Recommended Posts

for a little help this offseason.

So it's no surprise that Kuechly — the Panthers’ second-year middle linebacker — was pretty excited when Carolina fulfilled his wish and selected Utah defensive tackle Star Lotulelei with the 14th pick in last month's NFL Draft.

Kuechly knew right away his job had just become a lot easier.

"I was watching the draft from my apartment and I had a huge smile on my face," Kuechly said of the pick.

is it wierd that i found his comments un-kuechly like?

"It was funny, (defensive tackle) Sheldon Richardson got picked up at number 13 and then I knew we had the next pick and there were still two tackles on the board. I was like, ‘Please get one of them for me,’" Kuechly said.

I'm not trying to say anything, but that's not usual for him to say something like that, even though it is true.

Was thinking the same thing, then remembered it's Keek we're talking about. He is a demi-god, he can be a little bit full of himself if he wants to be  ;)

That's the point, it seems like that quote was made up or something. Never heard him talk like that before.

Yep I know we are with him every step of the way in his life. And we hear about all his conversations. I'm pretty sure he doesn't cuss either right? Ya Kuech might not talk like this to the media, but it's not out of the ordinary for him to say this every once in a while, he still is person with emotion, and a MLB that plays in the National Football League.

On one of the first times he did the afternoon radio show, Smitty made a comment to the effect of Keek being one of the biggest smack talkers on the field. Couple that with all the reports about him being extremely vocal during OTA's this week. Now add in the fact that he is identified by pretty much everyone as the leader on defense and that he isn't as shy around the media as he was during his rookie campaign.

All added up, the comment isn't that shocking and I'm sure there are more to come.

Good. Didn't hear Smitty talk about Keek. Although I should have figured after that Pryor hit last season when he was visibly talking poo and pointing at him.

I wasn't trying to say it was wrong if that is how it came across. Just different then what I've heard from him.

A poo talking Keek is an even more awesome Keek. We need it.

With two picks we singlehandedly made our defense almost a lock for a top 10 spot. The only place we dont have superstars are the secondary, and our front seven will make up for that deficiency in spades.

We were actually ranked 10th in total defense last season.  I am expecting top five. With the pieces we have, I am going to be surprised if we aren't top five. Some may consider it a lofty expectation, but it's definitely doable.

If you turn the volume WAAAAY up when you are re-watching games, you can hear Kuechly absolutely screaming his lungs out when he or any other Panther makes a big hit or a tackle.  It was never completely evident but after 20 or 30 times of thinking, "Is that Keek in the background screaming like a Banshee Indian?", you start to wonder if mild-mannered Clark Kent might have some Ric Flair in him.  I thought I was hearing things until the Pryor hit.

Oh...and here is the obligatory.
