Panthers Sign 1st Rounder Lotulelei

Recommended Posts

The Atlanta papers have indicated that the Falcan'ts were only $2 million under the salary cap and they hadn't yet signed three of their top four picks yet.

Then they went and signed one of those three (the 4th rounder), so they have LESS than $2 million under their cap to sign their top two picks (1st round CB Trufant, 2nd round CB Alford).  The players at those slots last year signed for over $2 million against the respective caps.

Looks like the Falcan'ts are having cap troubles, because they STILL haven't signed lil matty to his $100 million deal.

Gawd I can't wait to see matty's pocket collapse and him either running for his life or pounded into the turf.

Is that low for a first rounder?

With the new CBA, all the pay scales are pretty much set in stone, so there aren't any deals higher or lower than normal.

However, apparently Star's deal contains some offset language, and that was not the case with last year's 14th pick. I'm not sure of the offset specifics, but offsets usually relate to what happens if the team cuts a drafted player and that player then signs with another team. I know neither Cam nor Luke had offsets, so it appears Gettleman is taking a harder line, even with draft picks.
