What will it take for Rivera to Save his Job?

Setting the bar at playoffs or you're fired isn't well thought out.

We could technically go 15-1 and miss the playoffs. It is possible. Who would call for a coach to be fired if it was a freak scenario of us going 11-5 and not getting in? Not me.

The odds of a team at 10-6 or 11-5 missing the playoffs is remote. It does happen but only a handful of times in the past few decades.

But dont we play 3 of these teams? (Sea, SF, ATL) . If SF and SEA split with each other for their 1 loss each and we split with Atl for a loss each. Then either Car, SF, or Sea will have more than one loss correct?

I just picked random teams for my example. But as someone pointed out, the divisions play each other so maybe 15-1 and missing the playoffs isn't possible. 14-2 probably is.

My point was we could realistically be 10-6 and miss the playoffs. It happened just last year. I wouldn't want Rivera gone If that happens.

We continue to have the hardest nfl schedule and would have improved every year. I want the bar at 10-6 he stays, 8-8 he's gone, 9-7 we look at other factors to make the decision.

Every NFC team plays

6 games in division

4 games against an AFC division

4 games against an NFC division

1 game against a team in the remaining NFC divisions with the same finishing spot the previous year.

So 15-1 is impossible. Based on this I don't think 14-2 is possible either but 13-3 would be.

here is who played each other in 2012 in this hypothetical scenario. I picked 2012 instead of 2013 for no reason but it should be similar

Chi vs SF

Chi vs Sea

Nyg vs Dal

Nyg vs Dal

Nyg vs Atl

Nyg vs Car

NYG  vs SF

Sf vs Sea

Sf vs Sea

Atl vs Car

Atl vs Car

Atl  vs Dal

That is 12 games so 12 wins and 12 losses. 12 losses among 7 teams can easily be spread to have the 7th team (the one missing the playoffs to have 2 losses)

One possibility is

Chi 15-1

NYG 14-2

SF 14-2

ATL 14-2

DAL 14-2

Sea 14-2

CAR 14-1

I don't think it's even a make the playoffs or bust type thing. I think that if Rivera doesn't start out so hot, maybe a quick 2-5 record, he could be gone by midseason with someone else rising up to take his place in the interim.

If we have a bad record and uninspired football and horribly called games midway through the season..

Yes he should and will most likely be canned.

I want very much for Rivera to succeed. I'm not going to pretend he doesn't need vast improvement though.
