Shabazz Muhammad Bandwagon

I don't buy the whole "Bazz has poor work ethic". Everything that I've ever seen or heard from Bazz implies that he wants to be great. From him talking about wanting to be great, to wanting the ball in his hands, to being upset that he didn't get the last shot against Washington. Honestly a lot of people were hating on Bazz for not being happy about his teammate shooting (and making) the game winning shot against Washington, but I see it in a different light. Sure, he should have reacted a bit differently because his team just won the game. However, it shows that he has a passion for the game. He wants to be the guy. He wants the game winning shots. He wants to be a star. I am a huge Kobe fan and I've seen him upset in the rare occurrence that he didn't get the ball with the game on the line. Bazz has that same killer instinct, "I wanna be great" gene. The only difference is that Kobe wouldn't have acted like Bazz did. He would've been happy that the shot went in. I have a feeling that the UCLA team has terrible chemistry this season and they just didn't get along or like one another. I don't know, I don't want to justify his reaction with that, but it does show me that he wants to be a star.

Completely agree.

We need that kind of guy on this team. He's not a locker room killer. He just have that "I want to be great" ego. Thats a big difference. No one is complaining about KOBE, why finds way to trash Bazz? I think there's more to that UCLA team team than what we know. That wasnt a good team at all. Bazz was the only scoring option and bright spot on that team.

My deal is that I'd rather wait until we have a stable team than to draft a headcase.

Most of the guys on the team are super quiet (excluding Biz).

I've met a few of the guys (Kemba, Adrien, Thomas) and for the mos part they are extremely mellow...

Without a true leader on this team, I don't want some showoff like Bazz to come here and think he can do whatever he wants.

It just won't work... to be honest I don't think he has a good head on his shoulder... seriously who lies about how old they are?

Who told you that he was a headcase other than the media. He was never made up to be a problem until last season at UCLA. Bazz is a soft spoken, humble, and passionate person. No one is complaining about Westbrook. I think his attitude on the court is far worse. And there's plenty more.

I dont think Shabazz is going to be there at 10. I really think that he's going to be taken much higher than what the media is having him going. But, of course I would love for that scenario to happen. I think finding a trading partner for someone to jump up for Oladipo could really happen. Portland is one who is serious about trading up for him, but I think there's may be 1-2 more teams that could be mentioned as well.

The only teams between 4 and 10 that need a SF "Which is Shabazz's natural position, he could play SG in a pinch though."  So let's include SG's and SF"s as team needs.

The Hornets/Bobcats at 4 need a SG or PF/C.

The Suns at 5 need a SF

The Pistons at 7 need a PG or SG

The Timber wolves at 9 need a SF.

The Bobcats would take who's left of McLemore, Oladipo or Bennett.

Porter is a better prospect so he goes to the Suns as he fits their system better.

The pistons need a PG more then a SG or SF, so they go with McCollum

The Timber Wolves are the first threat to take him at 9th.

No way he goes before 9th overall, none at all. Especially after his showing at the combine.

Forget the bad ego. Cant blame a kid who all he have ever known in his life was the hype to be the next NBA superstar. Maybe, that's exactly what we need also. Someone who wants to be great. Bazz is the closet thing to be a NBA superstar if you forget his negative attitude last season at UCLA. His statistic is much better than McLemore or Oladipo. He's no where close to being a Tyrus Thomas locker room killer. If anything, his poor season at UCLA last season will mature him. I think the kid have finally touched ground in reality. It will only benefit him to see life differently than what he was used to with all the cameras around him. I'd take this as a blessing in disguise. David Stern had fugged Charlotte since whenever. This is a way for us to get back at Stern. Take Shabazz and show Stern the middle finger.

Yeah but this is a thin line to walk...  Is he hyped up because he wants to be great?  Or did he start getting hyped up by others at an early age because his skills/athleticism were already otherworldly, and thus he just rests on that alone?

I could be very wrong, but he strikes me as the type of kid that doesn't feel like he has to work to be great because he already is (in his opinion).

That's what separates the greats from the good...  JR Smith could be an all-time great, if he had it altogether off-the-court and mentally.  Terrance Williams is another example.  There are far too many kids coming out now who have been told that they are gonna make it no matter what because their abilities are so superior to their peers, but if they don't put in the work and rest on that, they end up becoming JAG.

You ever hear of Lenny Cooke, chuck?  If not, look him up and read his story.  Same deal.  At one time was considered better than LBJ and Melo in HS.

Like I said, I could be really wrong and you could be totally right...  It's just my personal opinion that there is something amiss with him, and I just don't see him suddenly blossoming into a superstar or even a go-to scorer in the NBA.  I just hope we make the right pick, regardless of who it is.

I cant disagree with you. That was a really good point that you made.

I just think that the kid has a ton of potential and when you hear him talk, he really seems like he love the game. He may be the kid that doesnt feel like he has to work to be great, but its not his fault. That's what he have been told by the people around him as a kid growing up. But, for him to be playing under the best to ever play the game in Michael Jordan I think it will benefit him. MJ is always seen practicing with his guys. I really think that these young highly touted players like Kemba, MKG, and Bazz would only benefit with playing/learning under probably the hardest worker ever to step foot in the NBA.

I just want the best player to improve this team. Imo, he's the best player and probably the top 3 in this draft if not for all the bad reps he has gotten. Take away his selfishness and bad body languages on the court, and he is a top 3 player in this draft talent alone.

Wow, I didn't know he had tourette's either.  Interesting.

I'm looking forward to the individual workouts.  I think we'll be able to get a sense on who Cho, Higgins, and MJ likes as they go through those.  I'm interested to see their reaction and feelings towards a lot of these guys, including Muhammad.  We'll be able to tell a lot more about him as we get further into the process.

I really think that we'll be seeing his name mentioned as a possibility as the no.4 pick soon. Remember, just yesterday no one cared about any other guys than Noel or McLemore bc we clearly thought we were going to get the no.2 spot. Now, you, MJ, Cho, everyone else, and I have to re-group our list. It's a lot different list today than what it was yesterday. MJ and Cho will take a serious look on Bazz. I just have a feeling. Cho seen what Harden did in OKC in Houston this past season. Bazz is so similar to him. It's going to be hard to pass up on the kid if he does well once brought in privately.

It's really not bad. Two months ago watching this, and I trashed it only to the reason that he wasnt worthy of the no.2 pick and wasnt as good as McLemore. I watched it twice since last night and he really looked worthy to be the no.4 pick.

I feel better with re watching this highlight reel too:

Shabazz can score with both hands. He played more like a SF at UCLA, but I think his game is going to be at SG in the NBA. Too much like James Harden. He can score in a variety of ways: off screens, transition, and post up on smaller defenders. He's so much like Harden bc of his transition to the rim. His only knock is his defensive effort.

Also, just look at Golden State for example. That's a franchise that build their team through a young back court like OKC. They decided to go with more veteran presences inside. OKC (2011) and Golden State this year were too fast for other teams to keep up with. San Antonio had serious problem keeping up with Curry, Thompson, and Barnes in the Playoffs. They're killing Memphis right now bc Memphis is no where as quick as those guys. Adding Bazz and finding a veteran presence inside would benefit this team more into the future imo.

The problem is that Bazz isn't built like a SG, he's too heavy and thick in the body for that and it slows him down. He doesn't have the quickness in half court sets to take NBA SG's off dribble and create his own shot, which means he needs to either loose some serious weight or he's playing SF in the NBA.  The Bobcat's already have a SF with MKG, so unless you want to draft Bazz and make him loose 15 pounds or so to get his quickness to NBA SG levels, he doesn't make sense for Charlotte to draft.

How?

James Harden: 6'5'' 220 lbs, 6'10'' wingspan

Shabazz Muhammad: 6'5'' 225 lbs, 6'11'' wingspan

Both are built so similar. I dont see how some are saying he's a SF, not SG.

    • I didn't say much bigger. Watch the highlights I linked. Bryce doesn't have the arm strength and/or talent to make the vast majority of the throws Mac made in that video.
    • Tetairoa McMillan.   The last 28 1st overall picks were either a QB, DE, or OT. Seeing as I don't think we'd take an OT in the 1st and give up on Ickey as an LT yet and there doesn't seem to be a clear overall #1 type of QB or DE pick this year, it very well could be a non conventional #1 overall this year, at least in regards from the last almost 3 decades of drafts. If we didn't have Horn, I'd be more open to Hunter as a CB at #1, but we have him so another CB wouldn't be how I'd use a #1 pick.  And as much as I love Legette, if we have SB contending aspirations, I don't think Legette is a #1 on a team like that, but he damn sure is an elite #2 on a team like that.  He's more of the Smith/Higgins/Waddle to Brown/Chase/Hill (in terms of role/impact, not style of play of course). T-Mac is going to be the top ranked WR on every team's board in the end.  He is going to be a true outside #1 WR who is viewed as a consensus Top 5 WR in the game by his second contract in the same way guys like Jefferson and Chase have done.  His height combined with his speed, athleticism, and hands are near impossible to find all in one player, there is a reason his generally used comp is Mike Evans (although as he's not as thick, I personally see him more as an AJ Green). Yes, as an Arizona alum I've admitted to having bias towards the player to begin with.  But he's also someone very widely being put into the Top 5 in mock drafts lately and most of them have him as the first non QB offensive player being taken, so it's not really THAT much of a homer pick on my part anyways. If a QB or DE truly separate themselves as being a can't miss prospect come draft day, I'm open to that discussion, but until then, or if it doesn't happen, T-Mac is my pick 100 times out of 100.
