Shabazz Muhammad Bandwagon

Recommended Posts

What ever happened to this kid? I think we have all forgot about Shabazz Muhammad. One of the best high school prospect to come out and after 1 college season, his stock his taking a dramatic HIT. I'm not a fan of his ego on the court, but he is still a highly talented basketball player. The kid sounds smart, humble, and very passionate when interviewed. He also played on a UCLA team that has done great preparing players into the NBA. I believe his name needs to be mentioned more as a possible pick at no.4. He would greatly improve our back court. I do believe that he's an upgrade over Hendo though he plays more like a SF. The more I think, the more I like the idea of taking Shabazz at the no.4 pick. Forget the bad media attention. Shabazz is clearly the best available player along with maybe Anthony Bennett at our spot. I believe MJ will take a HARD, HARD look at the kid. Yes, I think I'm jumping on the Shabazz Bandwagon as of now.

If you dont like him, you dont have to be disrespectful. Everyone has their own guy.

It's a joke, chuck.  You are supposed to LOL, buddy.  Nothing disrespectful about it...

I was expressing my opinion of him through a joke.

I have liked Bazz for quite some time, and while he disappointed me with his lack of defense and play-making -- his scoring was among the best. I would be pretty happy if we drafted Shabazz, but for me it's really between Bazz, Oladipo, and Len, with Zeller as a wildcard (because he is talented and tested VERY well in the combine).

This is why I think Shabazz makes perfect sense:

*** Rich Cho and the OKC Model ***

We have a PG (Kemba), SF (Kidd-Gilchrist), and an improving PF/C (Biz). We're missing SG and another Big. From all the things I've heard that the Bobcats might not offer Hendo anything, I dont think he's coming back. Shabazz' game is very similar to James Harden. Cho and MJ is going to take some serious look at him. Remember MJ's interests in Harden last season?? Adding Shabazz will give us a young and very similar back court to OKC. Go head and add a Paul Millsap or Al Jefferson and say hello to OKC 2.0. I really think that MJ/Cho would rather go young in the back court and add a veteran player inside than vise versa. If Cho is serious about his OKC model, this is the route he should take.

2013-2014 Charlotte Hornets

PG: Kemba Walker
SG: Shabazz Muhammad

SF: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

PF: Bismack Biyombo

C  : Al Jefferson

2011-2012 OKC Thunder

PG: Russell Westbrook

SG: James Harden

SF: Kevin Durant

PF: Serge Ibaka

C  : Kendrick Perkins

Yeah man, I see your reasoning.  I just didn't see the on-court production to justify it and I was just extremely underwhelmed with his showing at UCLA...  As I am with pretty much all of the SGs projected high in this draft outside of Oladipo.

That's good to hear there are others out there that are not ruling Bazz out of the question just bc of his negative media attention.

This is why I rather have Bazz over Oladipo. Bazz ceiling is much higher than Victor. Victor MJ like athletic, but he is already polished out. You take what you get with him right now. Bazz still have a lot of room for improvement. At best, I believe that Bazz is a 20-25 ppg SG with the potential to be an All Star player. I think Victor is going to be a 14-16 ppg SG as a role player. Something like a Tony Allen.

Yea, dont get me wrong. I saw exactly what you and many others saw of him last season. But, I still think that he has a ton of upside to be the top player in this draft. Im not going to let one bad season, which it really wasnt get the best of me. Shabazz can be a really good player and he should improve this team. Both Kemba and MKG would benefit with having Bazz run the court with them. I think we will all see Bazz' name mentioned more as the no.4 potential pick leading up to the Draft. Especially losing out on the no.2 pick, Bazz is a player that can put some energy to the Charlotte fan base. I dont see Oladipo as anything more than a role player. His MJ like athleticism is not going to believe that he's MJ or Wade. Len is a safe pick, but it's too high at no.4.

Shabazz Muhammad:

17.9 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 0.1 BPG

Ben McLemore:

15.9 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 2.0 APG

Victor Oladipo:

13.6 PPG, 6.3 RPG, 2.1 APG

His statistic is as good as the other two SG ranked ahead of him in this draft. Imo, it's better. If the media is killing him for his performance last season, what can he be if he had a better season?? Let's face it that the kid is not a finish product. He's going to only get better.

Forget the bad ego. Cant blame a kid who all he have ever known in his life was the hype to be the next NBA superstar. Maybe, that's exactly what we need also. Someone who wants to be great. Bazz is the closet thing to be a NBA superstar if you forget his negative attitude last season at UCLA. His statistic is much better than McLemore or Oladipo. He's no where close to being a Tyrus Thomas locker room killer. If anything, his poor season at UCLA last season will mature him. I think the kid have finally touched ground in reality. It will only benefit him to see life differently than what he was used to with all the cameras around him. I'd take this as a blessing in disguise. David Stern had fugged Charlotte since whenever. This is a way for us to get back at Stern. Take Shabazz and show Stern the middle finger.

I don't buy the whole "Bazz has poor work ethic". Everything that I've ever seen or heard from Bazz implies that he wants to be great. From him talking about wanting to be great, to wanting the ball in his hands, to being upset that he didn't get the last shot against Washington. Honestly a lot of people were hating on Bazz for not being happy about his teammate shooting (and making) the game winning shot against Washington, but I see it in a different light. Sure, he should have reacted a bit differently because his team just won the game. However, it shows that he has a passion for the game. He wants to be the guy. He wants the game winning shots. He wants to be a star. I am a huge Kobe fan and I've seen him upset in the rare occurrence that he didn't get the ball with the game on the line. Bazz has that same killer instinct, "I wanna be great" gene. The only difference is that Kobe wouldn't have acted like Bazz did. He would've been happy that the shot went in. I have a feeling that the UCLA team has terrible chemistry this season and they just didn't get along or like one another. I don't know, I don't want to justify his reaction with that, but it does show me that he wants to be a star.

My deal is that I'd rather wait until we have a stable team than to draft a headcase.

Most of the guys on the team are super quiet (excluding Biz).

I've met a few of the guys (Kemba, Adrien, Thomas) and for the mos part they are extremely mellow...

Without a true leader on this team, I don't want some showoff like Bazz to come here and think he can do whatever he wants.

It just won't work... to be honest I don't think he has a good head on his shoulder... seriously who lies about how old they are?

The only way I'd be fine with Shabazz is if the Hornets traded back to around the 9th or 10th spot for him and picked up extra assets. No way would I take him at 4 over Bennett or Oladipo.

I dont think Shabazz is going to be there at 10. I really think that he's going to be taken much higher than what the media is having him going. But, of course I would love for that scenario to happen. I think finding a trading partner for someone to jump up for Oladipo could really happen. Portland is one who is serious about trading up for him, but I think there's may be 1-2 more teams that could be mentioned as well.

    • I didn't say much bigger. Watch the highlights I linked. Bryce doesn't have the arm strength and/or talent to make the vast majority of the throws Mac made in that video.
    • Tetairoa McMillan.   The last 28 1st overall picks were either a QB, DE, or OT. Seeing as I don't think we'd take an OT in the 1st and give up on Ickey as an LT yet and there doesn't seem to be a clear overall #1 type of QB or DE pick this year, it very well could be a non conventional #1 overall this year, at least in regards from the last almost 3 decades of drafts. If we didn't have Horn, I'd be more open to Hunter as a CB at #1, but we have him so another CB wouldn't be how I'd use a #1 pick.  And as much as I love Legette, if we have SB contending aspirations, I don't think Legette is a #1 on a team like that, but he damn sure is an elite #2 on a team like that.  He's more of the Smith/Higgins/Waddle to Brown/Chase/Hill (in terms of role/impact, not style of play of course). T-Mac is going to be the top ranked WR on every team's board in the end.  He is going to be a true outside #1 WR who is viewed as a consensus Top 5 WR in the game by his second contract in the same way guys like Jefferson and Chase have done.  His height combined with his speed, athleticism, and hands are near impossible to find all in one player, there is a reason his generally used comp is Mike Evans (although as he's not as thick, I personally see him more as an AJ Green). Yes, as an Arizona alum I've admitted to having bias towards the player to begin with.  But he's also someone very widely being put into the Top 5 in mock drafts lately and most of them have him as the first non QB offensive player being taken, so it's not really THAT much of a homer pick on my part anyways. If a QB or DE truly separate themselves as being a can't miss prospect come draft day, I'm open to that discussion, but until then, or if it doesn't happen, T-Mac is my pick 100 times out of 100.
