Name change a big F U to Bob Johnson?

I understand that. Where does it say he changed it because he wanted to name it after himself? You got a quote there for me from him?

no quote exists because no owner of a brand new franchise is going to come out and blatantly tell his  new fan base that he is completely ignoring their choice for the team name, Flight, and instead say he is going to name the team the Bobcats after himself, which is the name that was voted for the least by his new fan base.

that's called bad business and bad PR.

Actually to credit Aggie, he actually did say he like Jordan in a previous post.

Though I disagree with his opinion on BJ, he's not as ass about it like KT was.

It was a reference he made to Mr. Scot not liking "Mr. Johnson" because of the selection of the naming of the Bobcats.

So, there is no quote? Cool.

Again Bob wasn't a bad dude. He just didn't make the right moves to get Charlotte to embrace the Bobcats. Foolish and speculative to think other wise.

No idea what kind of person he was. Don't honestly care.

That he was a terrible owner, however, seems to be an almost universally held belief. I've only heard very few people suggest otherwise, and pretty much every story that I've seen about him backs up that perception.

Sure ya do. If not you wouldn't be so concerned over the BOBcat thing.

As fi hs ownership. Yeah I'd say he was poor, but him not caring about winning is silly, wins = more money.

Though this might help clear some things up:

Found the article pretty interesting.

Also while we're here discussing terrible team names, let me go on the record and say that I never liked the Carolina PANTHERS for that matter. So winning does help, but it doesn't change a terrible name. In fact, it sounds way too generic. I prefer names that represent the area like the Chicago Bulls (refers the city's meatpacking history) Portland Trailerblazers (as pioneers went out west, Portland was the end of the line) or the 76ers (for obvious reasons in Philly). When I think of Wizards and Raptors, I immediately say to myself, "I hope the marketing agency behind that gem wasn't up all night!?!"

In fact the "Carolina Flight" as a NFL team, since they belong to the Carolinas, would have worked much better IMO than the Panthers.

In the end, I can accept the Panthers and deal with it. Of course. Still, if I had a choice I'd rather win with a name like, than win with one I don't.

In the end, if anybody can't agree that Bobcats is generic and thoughtless and dull, I don't know what else to say.

Not really.

I'm not that passionate about it. In the discussion now because it amuses me (and I'm bored).

Between friends, coworkers and radio, I hear a good amount of talk about Johnson. Little if any of it is positive.

So you are trolling.

Glad we could clear that up.

First off. The OP loyalty as a fan could be questioned. I know its offseason, but it takes away some hope and optimism. Other positive things away from a team that we should be thankful we have. Not saying we all have to agree, but this topic always show the nasty hateful side of the hudlde. Now, just cleaned up a little... guess most rather fight and hold to meaningless things that divide. Tomorrow who knows? Could be a tornado or anything that could destroy. So, hating a man that brought basketball back home for us is meaningless. I don' t care who owns the team as long as they treat it ,and me the same ( Good!).Product on the floor, all that matters. Oh looking good out there too. LETS GO HORNETS!!!!!
