Latest xBox live CNet release

As a long time casual xbox gamer, I will say that this impressed me more than the PS4 premiere did.  I have also owned a PS3 (60gb) since 2005(6?).  I don't have a cable box anymore, but I like that it's there.  I really like that feature that ties in the online with your tv watching in an semi intelligent way.  I don't care about hardware specs.  Look at the PS3's cell processor, which should have been the bees knees.  What I do care about is how well it functions, and god forbid, are the games fun.  That is the ultimate issue.  I won't buy one (or the PS4) at launch, I'm a new dad and too poor frankly.  I will wait a year or so to see how well these "next-gen" consoles compare to their popular, deeply installed previous renditions.  What I think might be kind of funny is the amount of development that occurs for the PS3/360s after the next gen launch.  I bet we'll see more than Sony and MS would necessarily like to see.

And as far as the used games, I want to see more details.  I buy games cheaply.  If they are going more digital distrubition model with these new systems, then why buy the physical discs anymore?  That's what I'm seeing, a move away from hardware based sales and into digital products.  You can't trade in your DL'd games either.  We will just have to see!

This is a bit of a flawed statement.  Just because third party developers got lazy and didn't optimize their games for the systems they were releasing it on doesn't mean the Cell processor or the PS3 were inferior.  All you have to do is look at first party exclusives to see how powerful the PS3 was for a console....

There's a ton of issues with this system circulating and I don't like any of them, but if they can iron those over then it will be ok.

Used game issues - Major Nelson is saying one thing and Phil Harrison is doing interviews and confirming the fee and the daily connection. So not sure what's going on with that stuff.

You can play your games over at a friends house, you would just have to link your Live account to that system while your playing or pay the fee.

The TV features all require an additional digital box purchase that works for the Xbox One, no telling how much that extra device will cost. So the TV features are kind of a moot point because they aren't out of the box features.

The Xbox reveal was a disater. M$ are more focusing on thier goal of being the ultimate all-in-one entertainment center instead of focusing on improving the actual gaming console.

I for one will not be buying this. I've been a Sony guy for awhile and I have no choice but to continue to be.

Well the online thing is something I can live with.  As long as I don't have to be constantly connected to play single player games, I'm ok with it.  Still not sold on Xbox One though.  I'll wait to see what they bring to E3.  In any case I doubt I'll be buying either console at launch.  I want to see how both the PS4 and Xbox 1 perform (i.e. how many defects there are).  I'm not going to buy 4 or 5 consoles because it's badly designed.

You give up your rights this gen to M$, next gen in 2020 will be the end of gamer freedom.

Wow there is a ton of misinformation in this thread. For the record it has DDR3 which is the fastest current regular PC ram. The PS4 has GDDR5 which is graphics ram. Speed comparisons here are irrelevant. XBOX one also has an HSA processor eliminating the need for both SDRAM and GDDR(I'm probably wrong on that). Though I'll be honest the processor architecture is beyond me it sounds cool though.

As far as used game thing goes it sounds like they have a workaround to allow families to use the game. The game installs in the background so you can play instantly and it is tied to your live account. I'm guessing there is a method to tag live accounts as a family with proof. You can go to a friends house and your game can download if you sign into your account. You will presumably be able to unlink games from your account in order to sell.

Long story short wait till E3 and more info to make a judgement. I'm thinking the XBOX one and PS4 will be very very similar in terms of power, the xbox just will have a bunch more bells and whistles (granted you pay that damn monthly fee).

Everything I posted came straight from MS themselves during the panel discussion on hardware or via interviews with Phil Harrison.

The Gddr3 creates a bottle neck for graphics processing, which is pretty important in a gaming machine. The game fee and those answers came from Harrison himself, the processing power and flops are based on the information that MS gave out during the panel.

After reading a lot of responses (including here of course) to yesterday's XboxOne announcement  I went and reviewed the current info on the PS4.  What I read is that they both are similar in structure (though the PS4 has more raw power in flops (BTW, how silly are the tera-penta-Cthulu-flops?  I mean really....a better word?)), the Xbox has more multimedia tie ins with the TV integration and the whole HDMI in.  I do think the sharing aspect of the PS4 is pretty cool, like being able to jump into a shared game.

I would like to throw this out there regarding the used games thing that everyone is getting super upset over.  Welcome to the new reality.  For years publishers have been upset that they have been losing revenue to places like game stop.  Now the PS4 and the XboxOne are setting things up to allow them to make up that money.  I've looked around (at work so not a total, thorough searching), and see that Sony is doing a similar thing to MS.

With the game sharing, I'm concerned about both consoles if you want to share games with friends.  Will you be able to do that via the social network?  Or when you go to a buddy's place, you can sign into your PSN/XBL account and retrieve your games and codes?  Better trust your friends, I guess...  I want to see how that system plays out, and we just don't have enough information from either console to make any kind of informed decision.

I am still a fan of the XboxOne (being I really love my 360), and I'm bullish on the PS4.  Fundamentally we need both consoles to be successful.  I don't want a winner, I want fierce competition for quality software.  Should I win the lottery (missed the $600m alas), I might buy both consoles in the future (because I have both 360 and PS3) because I too like the exclusives.  I think we are still too early in the news/revelation cycle to even start making informed decisions.  I would like to see more details about both consoles before I allow my comfy under armor underpants to get all twisted up.

I really can't wait to see what each brings at E3.  Also, what the heck will Nintindo do?  Lord knows having them around was good for development of both the 360 and PS3.  Will they be able to recover?  Or will they turn into a software company?  Or will they come up with a compelling reason to actually think about buying a WiiU?
