I swear that Redskin fans and Griffin are climbing up my pantheon of sports hate every day. Did you see all those idiots buying him wedding gifts from Bed Bath & Beyond?

Yes, I could not believe that. How come its always the rich people that gets free stuff?

Jesus H. Christ...

Yeah, I know Superman is a common theme for athletes, but I thought that was kind of an obnoxious thing for RG3 to do.  He undoubtedly had to know there were going to be a lot of comparisons between him and Cam regardless.

Cam had clearly let it be known that was his thing when he came into the league.  You can't just come in your first year and try to jack someone's trademark like that after they had obviously already become associated with it.  I don't really care either way, but you don't say poo like "Don't compare me to Cam Newton, compare me to Aaron Rodgers" or whatever the hell it was he said, and then do poo like this.

Really starting to not like ol' Bob between stuff like this, the massive ESPN hype machine like he's the second coming, and some of his crazy ass fans.  Every time I've watched him play it seemed more like he was a product of Alfred Morris and Shanahan's scheme more so than what everyone makes him out to be.  Mostly all I ever saw from him were simple little screen passes that just happened to turn into big plays, and then the occasional QB run that didn't really even show off his running ability more so than his straight-line speed.

You must be a 'Cam era' fan then.

Clearly.  Hence why I joined June 2010.

When a commentator says, "Great play by Carolina's Superman," who do you think?  Not Smith.  Yeah, Smith has a tat and all.  But Superman never caught on as his nickname.  Unless I'm wrong, then please show me a case of that happening.  Newton uses the same Superman celebration every time he scores.  He has far, far more of a case of having that nickname than Smith ever did.  So no, I do not consider him to hold the moniker of Superman.

But I guess I'm just a Cam era fan then.

You're completely missing the point. You asked who the third player was that is often associated with superman, I informed you that Smith has not only been referred to superman multiple times in his career, but he in fact wears a superman tat on his arm. It isn't a competition of who is referred to superman more, my comment was "we have three supermen" and your comment was "who besides luke and cam?". I answered your question and you are now trying to make it something else because you probably feel dumb for not remembering this. Or maybe you just never knew to begin with?

Anyways, run along. Nothing else to see here.

I'm pretty sure all of this stuff is done just for fun by thevathletes and the only people who get upset are the type of fans who argue this stuff online without end.

I don't recall Newton or any commentator ever referring to Newton as Superman even once. Newton has no more claim to it than any of the long line of athletes who have made references in fun.

You said we have 3 players who use or have the Superman nickname on our team alone.  How am I making it into something else?

To be fair, superman is probably one of the most overused and common nicknames in sports.

We have 3 just on our team alone.

I can't remember the last time someone referred to Smith as Superman.  He is not "often" associated with Superman.  So no, I do not feel dumb.  My point remains.  Smith has never really had the moniker Superman.  At least not nearly to the extent of Newton and I've seen Kuechly referred to as Kent or something in the ilk than I have Smith called Superman.

Tis all I'm saying.  I do not consider Smith to have that nickname because rarely has he been referred to as that.  Again though, maybe I'm wrong.  I'm the Cam Era fan over here so maybe the true Panther fan can show me.
