Ranking the QBs (NFL.com)

Recommended Posts

NFL.com has ranked Panther's QB 12th in the NFL.  Stating;

"Newton -- entering a huge year three -- sits at No. 12 because his physical tools are insane. So much pure ability. Cam can chart his fate, for better or worse."

Number 12 seems fair, though I have some questions about some of the guys ranked above him.

I would have put RG3 in the "Trick or Treat" category because I don't know that he's going to last a full season without taking a major injury (or two)

I can kinda see rating Luck and Wilson higher, but I'm always hesitant to rank rookies too high without seeing whether they'll maintain early success (some would argue Newton didn't).  Still not enough info there.  You could conceivably say that about Kaepernick too, though he looked pretty good end of last season.

Matt Ryan and Ben Roethlisberger both belong in the "all overrated" team, though Tony Romo is the champion of that front.  I'm also in the camp that says Joe Flacco is overrated, but given his playoff performance you'd probably have to rank him ahead of Newton (for now).

Philip Rivers?  Fair to rank him lower based on recent performance.  I'm curious to see if he'll bounce back.  If he returned to form I'd rate him higher.

Sanchez is dead last at number 35, which means some of the guys ahead of him aren't even full time starters (ouch),

I'm a huge Wilson fan, but I'm not ranking him or Kaepernick ahead of Cam. I need to see more from those two, but only because of the defensive support they get.

Also no one ever seems to want to talk about the amount of turnovers Luck had. Why is that?

I stopped reading after Luck and Griffin were ranked higher than Wilson, Cam, and Kaepernick.

Shiny new toys.

Luck, Griffin, Wilson and to a certain degree Kaepernick all fall under the "still don't really know what we've got there" category. Ranking them this high essentially means you believe the hype.  I'd say it'll still be at least a year - maybe two - before we really know how good these guys are (or aren't).

I think the biggest overreach is below Cam though.  Tony Romo should be in the twenties, late teens at the most.

I agree. This is just one mans opinion, uneducated as it may appear though. Nothing more.

I'm with theRed... these things are VERY subjective, but no way Luck, RGIII and Wilson are ahead of Cam. Come on.

Big Ben is not #5, he should be around #10.

Eli should be higher than Brees.

Flacco just won the fuging super Bowl... he's higher than 13.

As I said... highly subjective... but not a great list.

I think the list was determined based more on the team winning or play-off appearances when it concerns luck, rg3, wilson, and kaepernick. Besides, if the redskins were in the nfc south they would have never made it to the playoffs because of the falcons. And the AFC is just not as competitive. Based on talent and size and ability Cam should be higher.
