Outside of maybe Jared Allen, what other 4-3 DEs are better than CJ? I highly doubt you can name more than 3...

I mean Pierre Paul certainly has more talent... but he's pretty darn inconsistent.

Wake I know floated about as a pass rushing 3-4 OLB for a bit... not entirely sure where that puts him.

Chris Long is a really solid young and up and coming player but I wouldn't say he's as good as CJ.

CJ is easily in that blurry top 5 area in terms of being an all around effective 4-3 DE.

As far as 4-3 DE, he is in a blurry top 5, as of last year!

CJ isn't Mr. Conisistant either....there was a lot of moaning this past year about him not doing enough.

Can we also add in random stats from PFF and what not showing CJs superior pass rushing productivity?

Case in point is that considering what each player gets paid (and their respective age), the grass is greener over here.

Peppers IMO was never a pure pass rusher....diversity is what made him special. He was freakishly diverse.

CJ is a better pass rusher IMO despite not even being a speed rusher. Pep can do more well IMO.

He either restructures next year or will be released.

Arguably, he was overpaid for a MLB as well.   He was not the best in the NFL.

If he wasnt number 1 he was definitely a close number 2 at the time behind Willis. Willis got an insane contract from the Niners so therefore Beason warranted close if not more than the same thing. Thats the way it went.

Nobody gives money back in this league. We all know what NFL stands for. Players play the contracts they're given and if you don't like it, you cut them. Aside from that, Beason hasn't been approached about a restructure apparently. Meh.

Even though I'm new to posting, I have been following this forum for a while now. I am sometimes amazed at how many fair weather fans we have on here. I realize Beason hasn't been at full speed for a couple of seasons now, but it wasn't really that long ago he was playing like the Beast he is.

 

I also don't understand those questioning his leadership. He is absolutely a leader on this team both on and off the field. He is a professional at all times, and when healthy he plays as hard as any player on the team.

 

How can we question his character? I do not know him personally, and I expect that's true for 99% of the posters on this site. I cannot know his motivation, and I certainly don't blame him for taking the money he was offered. I see a player who has been selfless and supported Luke's success in the middle with a great deal of humility.

 

I think the article was BS, and I believe when the situation presents itself, Jon will step up and be a team player. I am confident he will return to his earlier Pro Bowl form and be awesome on the field. Just my opinion.

Beason's doing nothing wrong. We have cap, his job in in jeopardy, you would do the same thing. A lot of you guys are letting your emotions get in the way. You seem to think that fans are betraying Beason somehow by saying he's a liability. You can cheer for someone even though you think they're passed their prime.

 

Before anyone gets all defensive, yes, Beason's in trouble. He wasn't that good last year, go check his PFF grades. Now he's suffered another season ending injury, playing in a position he's never strived in. Yes, he's played OLB before, but never as well as what he did at MLB. He BETTER be ready to take a pay cut next year.

I said "arguably" because I see both sides.  I agree--however, Beason was a notch below Willis but Hurney paid Beason more than Willis, if I am not mistaken.  You could argue both sides all day.  Beason was worth more then and in the middle than he is now.  However, Beason is one of those contageous, Ray Lewis-type leaders who makes everyone around him better.

I guess im still one of the few that have no problem with beasons contract.

At the time of his contract signing, he was no doubt, one of the best MLB's in the game. The contract he signed reflects that.

Yes, he's been hurt the last few years. That sucks, but take can't predict poo like that, and take can't just tear up the contract due to injury.

If he misses substantial time this season, then next offseason will be when it'll be addressed. As it should be.

Beason is a hell of a football player. Seeing him back on the field is going to be a great thing to watch.

I thought he was "not very smart" because this like he say Gross and Kalil and heros for recontructing and helping the team. Without mensioning that Gross is taking a huge pay cut in the process and Kalil is making MORE money in the new deal. 

 

I assumed he at least had checked Beasons contract. 

 

Turns out he didn't (or did not understand it):

 

"Jon Beason, who is making a ridiculous $10 million a year, "

 

NO, he is not. Beason is set to make $5,250,000 in 2013. He also suggest he take a 50% pay cut (while guranteeing 2014 at 50% cut too). Only problem is $3,750,000 of the 2013 money is already guaranteed, so there is only $1,500,000 in 2013 that can be taken off the cap regarless of how the contract is changed. 

 

There is no point for the Panthers lower that $1,500,000 in 2013 by push more guarnteed money into 2014, as they want to be able to cut (or at least threaten to cut) Beason in a year and there is already a $8,000,000 cap hit to deal with in 2014 from the original sign-on bonus. 

 

So, the Panthers have not approched Beason about his contract because at this point there is really nothing to do about it from either side. 

 

However, for Beason to take a cut in 2014 depending on how he plays this year is pretty much guaranteed.

With how the open market is now he would be getting vet minimum for another team with his injury history.That is a huge difference.
