Scathing article about Beason and his contract

This is a hypocritical forum.  So many of you will scream at the 2nd year player holding out because he wants more money.  EVERYONE is screaming, fug no, get your ass on the field.  You signed a contract so you play for what you agreed to.

Did the contract have a injury clause where he would renegotiate or restructure?  NO

Stick to the damn contract.

Hurney gave him a deal similar to Willis in SF.  Clearly as good if not better than Willis (prior to the injuries) So I didn't have an issue with the deal.  Injuries happen.  Beason would be on that field honoring his contract if he could. (IMO I think he did last year too long)  Giving us 180%.  Most of you know it to.

He signed a contract and there is NOTHING wrong with making Carolina keep their part of the contract.

Furthermore, We juggled money on Gross and Williams.  They didn't lose any money.  That is only Gettleman doing some creative financing. Maybe he is working on it, maybe there isn't a good way to do it.

I hardly believe that Beason is such an ass that he would not allow some creative financing to benefit himself and the team.

Willis was just about universally viewed as slightly better than Beason when that deal was signed . Splitting hairs...but most outside Carolina weren't debating that. It was a standard Hurney overpay

also, just bc a player gets a deal....in no way means there is nothing wrong with a franchise not honoring it. You have to cut and run sometimes. Only way.

You KNOW this sht keeps Gett Dawg up at night. The Beason and CJ contracts are the last two elephants he'll have to deal with from the Hurney age.

Disagree about CJ.  We were almost the fools to make Peppers the highest paid defender in NFL history, instead we put his backup in and he's outproduced Pep.  Cj has a big contract no doubt, but he has more production than Pep, is still young, has a very good motor and forces fumbles like a baws.

If CJ keeps his play level (and hell it could easily increase with the beef we've added on the inside) he's probably going to earn every penny available in his contract.

Most contracts written before last year, not just by the Panthers, but other teams as well, are out of whack with the way contracts will be handled going forward. The pay structure has changed in the NFL, with only QBs, and really special talents like Calvin Johnson receiving the the big money. Free agents will no longer be able to cash in as just average players at their position. Now more than ever the draft has become the primary vehicle for restocking talent on a roster because of the new rookie cap. So yes, Marty made some hugely bone headed moves before he left, and those deals will need to be adjusted going forward. I think next year Gettleman will rework CJ, and cut or restructure Beason, no matter how well he plays.

DING DING!

look at contracts that were given out to vincent jackson, brandon carr, KVB, and half the 2011-2012 eagles roster.

I wouldn't say CJ has outproduced Pep....he has filled the spot pretty dang well. He was overpaid though.

Agree 100%.  But don't bitch (not you personally) about it because we owe him 16 million.  We (Hurney) were the ones that guaranteed the money.  Guarantee means Guarantee.

Don't be pissed at Beason for taking what we guaranteed.

Just like the DeAngelo deal happened, I hope Beason's happens the same way.  No one really heard about it until the deal was done.

You can just look up the production stats... its pretty damn clear.

Since pep went to chicago

pep has 130 tackles, 30.5 sacks, and 7 FF.

CJ has 143 tackles, 33 sacks, and 9 FF.

Sure it isn't a massive difference in production, but when you compare their contracts we easily have the better contract.

Per pro football reference, in that time span.

CJ has 1.5 more sacks

Pep has 1 more FF

Pep has 5 more FR

Pep has 2 more INTs

Pep has 7 more PD

CJ has 13 more tackles

Both contracts are bad.

CJ is the 3rd highest paid DE in the league, but he isn't a top 5 DE! Top 10, yes!

Outside of maybe Jared Allen, what other 4-3 DEs are better than CJ?  I highly doubt you can name more than 3...

I mean Pierre Paul certainly has more talent... but he's pretty darn inconsistent.

Peppers is in the same boat.

Wake I know floated about as a pass rushing 3-4 OLB for a bit... not entirely sure where that puts him.

Chris Long is a really solid young and up and coming player but I wouldn't say he's as good as CJ.

CJ is easily in that blurry top 5 area in terms of being an all around effective 4-3 DE.

We lucked into a better deal, no doubt! At the same time, Pep hasn't been living up to his contract either

Well one source is wrong obv.  And we are really gonna include pass defenses?

Can we also add in random stats from PFF and what not showing CJs superior pass rushing productivity?

Case in point is that considering what each player gets paid (and their respective age), the grass is greener over here.
