Scathing article about Beason and his contract

Most contracts written before last year, not just by the Panthers, but other teams as well, are out of whack with the way contracts will be handled going forward. The pay structure has changed in the NFL, with only QBs, and really special talents like Calvin Johnson receiving the the big money. Free agents will no longer be able to cash in as just average players at their position. Now more than ever the draft has become the primary vehicle for restocking talent on a roster because of the new rookie cap. So yes, Marty made some hugely bone headed moves before he left, and those deals will need to be adjusted going forward. I think next year Gettleman will rework CJ, and cut or restructure Beason, no matter how well he plays.

I know this won't make a difference to anyone. But, until Beast is actually approached to restructure, and turns it down. You all are just venting for vents sake.

Beast may be open to the possibility of a restructure. None of you know what he is thinking. But some you sure act like you do. Until he says NO, I want my money. I will continue to believe in him. But hey, this is the Huddle way too many kids on here ready to bury Beast over an article and assumptions.

If we ask him to restructure and then he says no. I will be right there with you. Until he actually lets us down, I will be behind him.

Oh, and comparing this situation to the Peppers fiasco is really to huddley for words.

it wasn't an apples to apples comparison....simply pointing out if Beason leaves the core group of over the top Peppers haters will need to rethink there stance.

Delhomme and Beason extensions weren't done under comparable situations....doesn't mean they can't both be talked about as bad deals. In that same manner in could discuss to players no longer with Carolina

I don't think he was ever an All-Pro, but I may be wrong. I love me some Beason, but saying his contract isn't the worst one we've ever written is a little bit blinded by homerism. Like SCP said, I'm not gonna hate the man because of his contract, I'll be mad at those that wrote it. Like Angels fans being mad at Josh Hamilton because he can't play anymore. Not his fault the contract was offered. I hope he plays lights out, restructures and we keep him and go on to do great things. But I can see how, for some, it would appear the writing is on the wall for him leaving the team with a very sour taste in their mouths.

He was an all pro in 2008. And 2nd team another year. There was a 2-3 year period where Beason, Willis and Lewis were rotating all pro ILB.

Mind you, that period was probably 4+ years ago now.

I would agree in principle that Beason should restructure, especially given his recent injury history.

That said, Brett Jensen is a utter twit whose opinion is generally somewhere south of worthless. His name being attached to this article instantly takes away most, if not all, credibility.

Frank Garcia at least usually knows what he's talking about when it comes to football discussion (even if he might not say it especially well).

The vast majority of them though? Morons, and Jensen is one of the biggest. Of the primary personalities, he might be second only to Marc James in sheer stupidity. There's definitely competition on that front.

Don't even get me started on how ignorant their sidekicks can be.

The contract of Beason is a HUGE deal right now, but not just for the obvious reasons! Gettleman has to set a tone with agents and that tone is, "We are not going to overpay and if your client wants to leave for another team that bad then bye-bye." In order for Gettleman to have future successful negotiations, HE HAS TO ERASE THE NOTION THAT THE PANTHERS ARE WILLING TO OVERPAY!

This guy is just not very smart. At least he is not smart enough to learn how nfl contracs or the cap works before he writes about it...

How contracts work and cap space is far from what this article is about..........its about changing front office philosophy

Yes he was, twice. He was a starting LB three Pro-Bowls in a row too.

It's not homerism. Beason was viewed as an elite LB in the league by not only us (other fanbases respect Jon). The fact is Hurney overpaid him but you can't say he didn't earn it. He's been good to our defense for years now.

He was an All Pro once. 2008.

First team is all that counts
