Where Does Star Rank as a DT Prospect Coming Out?

Recommended Posts

We have seen a lot of highly touted/hyped defensive tackles come out in the recent years. Some have lived up to their pre-draft hype, others have not. I'm just wondering where you see Star, heart condition aside, as a defensive tackle prospect compared to others that have come out. Here is a list of guys I was thinking of...I'm sure I am missing a few of the good ones that were taken pretty high.

Glenn Dorsey

N. Suh

Nick Fairley

Fletcher Cox

Marcell Dareus

Michael Brockers

Floyd

Sheldon Richardson

Dontari Poe

J. Worthy

Star Lotulelei

I believe Star would have been getting crazy praise pre-draft, more so than he did, if he had played in the SEC and the heart condition thing never came up.

Lotulelei is/was probably #2 for me.  Suh is easily #1 as a prospect coming out and it isn't debatable.  Then I'd go Star (another gap after Star; I think he was the most dominant DT since Suh), Dareus, then not sure after that.

Dorsey was real good too.

Leaving Gerald McCoy out of this list is a bit of a miss.  He manhandled us last year.

I'd have to say Star is right behind dareus and suh.  its a bit tougher to say for sure as star is pretty darn versatile.  hes like a bigger suh but doesnt move quite as well.

Pretty high. IMO:

1. Suh

2. Dorsey ~ Star

4. McCoy

5. Dareus ~ Floyd

I know Dorsey's been disappointing, but gosh, coming out of college, he was a sight to behold. Trust the Chiefs to fug it up. Floyd and Dareus were almost identical as prospects. I know one got drafted a lot earlier than another, but you just never know how different teams rate prospects. If Floyd was in Dareus' position, who knows where he would've gotten drafted.

I was hoping to see Dorsey choose a 43 D to play for this season. I think he could very well succeed, or at least be much better than what he was at KC. Going to SF, he is in the same situation. Same goes for Tyson Jackson. I think both of them are much better fit in a 43 D.

Hard to say considering I've only seen his college film. So I think his style is more like Nagta or Suh for his potential brute strength may not be as strong as Nagta or as quick as suh. Brockers,McCoy are more athletic I think. Now on potential moving forward I think his impact could be better then any of these DTs simply because of are DE which get all of the attention already. Look at all of these players & the only team with really good DE's would be Brockers on on the Rams he has 2 very good DE'S. Because of that it will be hard to double Star or Short.

Anyone think we should have taken Big Jonathan Hankins of OSU over Kawann Short? I love Short very much, but I think Hankins may turn out to be a very productive player. Sure Hankins is one of those true NT, so some of yall may wonder why Hankins when we already took Star but lets remember Star has the ability to play the 3 tech. Also, Hankins was considered as the better pass rusher than Star. Just something that have been running through my mind since the draft.
