Looks like the Hornets are officially back!

5 year Bobcats season ticket holder here...and I 100000% approve this change. It needed to happen and now the non die hard fans will have something to latch onto. Trust me when I say the organization needs the shot in the arm...it's basically dead at games. Fumbling this decision probably would have ended my season tickets because this is the biggest no brainer move ever.

Posted this elsewhere, but here it is again...  And I apologize in advance for any possible typos, I was fairly distracted while writing it:

From the few people I've seen that aren't happy with the decision, I'm just trying to figure out what the downside is to the move?

The truth is, Bob named the team after himself and then made one bad decision after another. Our one moment of success came in an embarrassing first-round sweep out of the playoffs at the hands of the Magic. ONE "SUCCESSFUL" season in 9 years of existence. Other than that, we've been the worst franchise in the league in that span when taking into account front office blunders and win/loss records.

It has been horrible. It has been painful for fans.

Yet, through it all, almost everyone on this boards has been here. Waiting. Hoping. Begging. For success...

Changing our name to the Hornets doesn't mean success. What it does mean is that they finally listened to us and thankfully it signifies a shift away from the doom and gloom and repeated failures of Bob's Cats. The Hornets brand itself has proven to be wildly successful when it belonged to the city of Charlotte, both regionally and worldwide, which is what is so exciting about getting it back... We finally are doing something as a franchise that is a known SUCCESS.

This isn't hiring Sam Vincent. This isn't trading Tyson Chandler away to win a championship in order to take on more salary over more years.

This is proven to work. It has a majority of the day-one diehard fans of the Cats as well as the segment of the local region that weren't previously fans of this incarnation of Charlotte professional basketball EXCITED.

It reminds us of times that we had sustained success - in attendance, on the court, in acquiring players, in having coaches worth a crap. A time, a feeling that the duration of our existence as the Bobcats has not offered us.

For those of us that have been fans since we were awarded the 2nd incarnation of Charlotte NBA basketball, there are no worries. We certainly won't forget all of the crap we unnecessarily endured through all of these years in order to reach the point of success that we will certainly reach in the next few years. We won't forget the Bobcat years and we know that renaming ourselves the Hornets wasn't the reason for our success. Off the court, it certainly will provide much more success than the 'Cats brand ever did in terms of marketing/sales/popularity, but it won't be the reason for our on-court success. But, it certainly does signify a shift from mediocrity to success as a whole.

And for that, I am ecstatic. I am tired of our franchise being unappealing in every sense of the word.

And while we won't forget all the hard times, it certainly won't hurt to distance ourselves from those thin years... Not to mention, the "new fans" we will gain from the change, and the fans worldwide who will join us again in fandom whom had given up on pro basketball when they lost the "Charlotte Hornets," may have just saved us from eventual contraction and/or relocation down the road. I can't wait for us to take the court in our teal and purple again. I'm ready to turn the page on the painful history of our Bobcat years.

This conference better be BEFORE the lottery and not one of those, "Oh, you thought we had something major to announce because we put out a press release saying 'major announcement' in it?  Well, we were just announcing which pick we officially won in the lottery...  Trolololololololololol!"

Yeah, the We Beelieve page just put up a flyer saying it is at 6pm.

How awesome would it be if we actually do the lottery with a "Hornets" ball and nameplate up there, lol!!!

I'm gonna see if I can make it up there for it tomorrow, but I doubt I'll be able to.
