Anyone do any ac work?

My freon was low at the end of last summer, but it made it through by thawing out the coil like twice in a month or so. Well now I am going to have to bite the bullet and get it fixed. What are the chances im just looking at a slow leak and can just add freon? It worked for the first week or two of hot weather and now its back to the same. Anyone in charlotte have a company theyd recommend?

It will cost you a couple of hundred dollars to refill it.  You have to figure out whether or not you want to roll the dice or spend $5000 on a new unit.

I'm not recommending him but he just happened to be at my building working on my neighbors unit and left a card.

I was reading that if there is a leak that the coil can be replaced for about 700 bucks or if its just some seals for about 400, I don't think the whole unit needs to be replaced

Adding freon on a reg basis can get expensive. That old type freon is sky high.

Its a small unit for a townhome, if they think it has a bad leak it may be cheaper to replace then repair. I don't think a new one would be anywhere near 5 grand. Im hot as balls right now!!

Just got a new one. Cost $3500. I have one outside unit.

Honestly, I have been toying with opening up a HVAC company down here in ILM.

 

Salt air destroys those things, and markup is crazy high.

 

Just have not done it yet.

I think everyone thinks that....I saw a big billboard of them on I85 awhile back and shuddered.
