ESPN's Football Outsiders red flags the Carolina Panthers WR position

I'm not saying abandon the OL but if we lose our #1 receiver and fail to locate an adequate replacement it's not going to matter how good our OL is if we just have scrub receivers out there incapable of keeping the defense honest for our backs. Remember how our offense has looked in the past without Steve? Let's not kid ourselves.

2009 - won the game after he broke his collar bone the week prior on that TD

2008 - went 2-0 while he was suspended

2004 - Delhomme had the best season of his career while Smith was out

need an OL or the rest IMO doesn't matter. All start up front...both the pass and run

We need both.

2004 - Yeah big whoop we went 7-9 without him. Yay for losing seasons.

2008 - We also had some guy nicknamed Moose, combined with Steve playing 14 games. Voila 12-4.

2009 - 8-8, Jake fell apart. Meh.

If simply having a good OL was all that mattered there would be so many more happy fanbases out there.

Olsen had 5 TDs and Smitty had 4.  We are not getting a lot of TDs from our primary receiving options.  I don't know if I would blame that on the receiving targets themselves.

It may have something to do with Cam running the ball in the redzone

Lets see here. Our average yards per completion put us at third in the league behind the Redskins and the 49ers at 8 yards per completion. Our average yards per game was 16th at 230 yards per game but honestly another 10 yards per game or 1 extra completion would have made us 11th.  Not bad for a bunch of scrubs, has beens, and never wases.

The Patriots never draft WR.  If I had to choose between another potential bust and FA, I would do like them.  If it is no Megatron or just break out type guy, I wouldn't throw away draft picks on WRs in the late rounds.  I love how one week ESPN has a bunch of hacks working for them and then the next they know exactly why our GM has failed our roster.

Patriots have been very good at FA at WR

Over the last 15 years they still have invested more in the first 2 rounds at recieving targets than us

What? Other than picking up Randy Moss and trading for Wes Welker the Patriots have been abysmal with WR's.

The patriots draft WRs in free agency because they suck so badly at developing them.  Investing picks in busts and guys who don't work out is hardly something to emulate and admire.

those 2 FA picks up poo all over any we have made at the position.

and they still invested more in recieving targets in the first 2 rounds over the last 15 years.  It was implied they neglected it....they have attempted to invest more than us at the position.

who said they should be admired?

they just have done more than us...therefore the "hey look at NE" approach doesn't jive.  That was my only point.

No argument on that.

As for them drafting wide receivers, what is there to argue about? They're absolutely terrible at it.
